Glastonbury

Had a look for any general Glastonbury threads, but none!

Funny how a 68 year old lady stole the show. She worked the crowd to perfection and still had the class to whisper/talk many parts of the songs. Her voice was sublime and to read comments this morning in the press that some people thought she mimed, it just shows......well, it just shows, doesn't it?

I've been away so missed Glasto completely. However I will be checking out Percy, Goldfrapp, Jack White, ESG and Mogwai (none of the headliners interested me in the slightest - and how the fcuk did Kasabian get so big?) on the iPlayer.

Have read some reviews of Dolly and although I am more of a respectful admirer than a fan, will have to check her out too. It is something of a Glasto tradition that a golden oldie completely wins over the crowd and becomes the star of the festival (especially when the headliners are dull, as they have been recently) - Dolly this year, Nile Rodgers last and Kool & The Gang in 2011.

Anyone else put in good performances?

Yes I'm a respectful admirer of Dolly, rather than a fan too. I liked her style, her presence and even the corny part of act worked. Very slick.

Jack White rambled on a bit, Ed Sheeran wants to study Dolly to see how it's done, Blondie was out of tune and lost her cool image by trying to play too "big".

Pah - I was there and Blondie were great and so was Jack White. Blondie were way better than I expected and the band played really well, though given the harness she was wearing I was disappointed she wasn't hoisted up and swung out over the crowd! Dolly was fine for what she does but Jack White and the Black Keys were my favourites on the big stages.

Loads of good stuff on the other smaller stages but it's a whole experience, not just about analysing the music. I will be hitting the iPlayer and the internet over the next few days to catch up with what I missed. Not sure why but I nearly always find a discrepancy between how acts appeal live and on the iPlayer (some much better some much worse) - you really can't judge the performance by watching the telly!

Anyone  else from the forum there?

Blondie is usually always good, but she was crap there. Jack White was dull. Pah.

Sorry for the "pah" but I could feel Jack White using my rib cage as an extra instrument so not dull for me

Also great on the day were Royal Blood, who will be HUGE; one of the best performances I saw.
