N-serve for iPad
Posted by: MDM on 06 March 2011
Any news on the probability and timing of Naim launching an n-serve (or otter HDX App) for iPad? Any chance of Naim finally enabling HDX owners to use the built-in vTuner to listen to internet radio (which is apparently already possible for those who use the Songbook Naim App)?

Thanks for the quick reply. I do hope that the tentative timeline that you mentioned will be met so that we will at least have the iradio functionality on the hdx before the summer. I had almost given up on it so I am glad to hear from you that it is finaly coming. After several years of patience another couple of months will not make the difference I guess ;-).

I thought the existing n-serve App is usable with an ipad (?). Do you talk about a totally new app or a cost-free update?

Most iPhone/iPod Touch apps will run on the iPad in some form or another. The n-Serve and n-Stream apps are also compatible in 2x scaled mode with the iPad. FWIW, I assume Paul means a dedicated version of the apps which make use of the larger screen of the iPad and probably some added functionality. I have no idea weather it will be an update free of charge ...

Hi Paul,
can you give some details? Is the planned App a separate new one? As I get my ipad tomorrow, I donĀ“t want to buy two apps.

Hi,
The app will be a free upgrade to the existing n-Serve app so if you purchase the current version you will be automatically updated to the iPhone/iPad universal version when it is released
As for new features to expect in n-Serve I added a bit more info in this thread:
https://forums.naimaudio.com/di...8285647290243/page/2
"This iPad app really is coming along nicely, as well as adding coverart support and search feature we have snuck a couple more goodies in. The app will work in offline mode which effectively means that it caches all the album and artist data locally, so if you find yourself in a record shop trying to remember if you already have a copy of that special edition Status Quo boxset you can refer to the n-Serve app on your iPhone/iPad to search your entire music collection. We have also added nice click-throughs on the extended metadata for each album and track, so you can say, view the info for a track, click on the composer to see all the albums by the composer then add them to the current playlist, then select a performer etc etc. You won't be seeing playlist and metadata editing in the first iPad release but this is something we want to press on with soon after."

Hi Tom,
You forgot to mention iRadio for the HDX as Paul did above. Will this be available with the updated app, and/or does this requires a software update for the HDX as well??
Regards,
Michel

Michel this will require an hdx update once iradio is signed off.

Hi Paul,
Thank you for your quick reply. Will this be a major software update for the HDX just as the 1.5a update about a year ago? Will it be possible for end-users to install this update themselves?
Regards,
Michel
