Yes, when transcoded to WAV via a UPnP server such as provided by ElGato's EyeConnect plug-in.

Depends on your source.  If your source is a Mac or Mac Mini or Apple TV and you connect directly via a Toslink it should work.  At least it does on my UnityQute.  But when tested using streaming through a router, the Qute displayed "No data" or similar.

So what is your source for your Apple Lossless files?

Hi,

As above. It will work through direct connection via Toslink.
The Uniti or Qute won't handle Apple Lossless through streaming. The files have to be converted to another format (eg: WAV). Elgato Eye Connect will do this on the fly (as they're playing) and is free for the audio-only version.
It works for me - although other people prefer diffrent uPnPs.

Direct via toslink or USB to Digital (Halide Bridge, Bel Canto or wavelength to name a few)

Elegato works fine - just a bit clumsy with n-stream. Direct via ipod (usb) will also work.

Remains to be seen what will happen with airplay.

Dear all

thanks for your information...I am using a new iMac and MacBook Pro at home & I want to stream Apple Lossless files from that to the Naim Uniti....If I understood the replies, I can download Elgato Eye Connect (one version per iMac/MacBook Pro)  and then I will be able to stream Apple lossless files in iTunes to the Uniti?  With little/no loss of quality?

thanks again

Paul

Hello Paul,

I own a Mac Mini & a NaimUniti too.
I stream my ALAC files from the Mini to the Uniti using the "Asset UPnP" software. It is a Windows XP software but you can use it on the Mac with the help of CrossOver Mac (another software).

The main advantages is that the features are very powerfull : you can set the transcoding to WAV or LPCM for ALAC only, set your navigation tree to reflect your personnal taste and so on.

The quality is perfect : all is lossless !
