New Elbow Album

Posted by: rodwsmith on 11 March 2011

This is growing on me now - I thought ho-hum at first, but some of the quieter more thoughtful songs are starting to get under the skin in the way that some of the more obvious ones on Seldom Seen Kid became the most skippable after a while.
He has a great voice.
Still waiting for the vinyl, which is on the way, but thoughtfully Universal Music sent the download code as soon as they realised there was a delay in production of the record.

And they are not the new bloody Coldplay.

Anyone else?

Gets better every time you hear it as well!

Same here, no complaints with sleeve or vinyl. Mine is a pre-order, don't know if that makes a difference?

My second copy just arrived (each has taken the full 28 days to get to France). More rubbish - both discs completely filthy and the cover ripped - I seriously think they may now be sending out copies that others have already returned.

It's a fine record musically, but this experience has really put me off buying anything from Universal ever again.

I wonder if the band know? Surely as record labels cling to life and diminishing profit margins, the last thing they should be doing is completely alienating the one group of music fans who are actually happy not just to pay, but to pay a premium for music. Their loss.

Those of you above who have got a good copy seem very much to be in the minority - will probably be worth a lot of money one day. Both the ones they have sent me (pre-ordered) appear to have had fag ash lavished upon the playing surfaces. Seriously.

Oh well...

Still waiting for my money back!

I can't be arsed to try and get a decent vinyl copy after 2 and reading here, so I gave up. I have the mp3 D/L and will get a CD version soon.

Music was my Lent sacrifice this year, so I was looking forward to my Elbow LP.  By gum it's rubbish, even worse than The Killers, which is saying something.  The LP surfaces looks like something CSI might set about with swabs and stuff!!

Some of the little scuffs are caused by trying to get the LP in and out of the rather stiff and tight inner liner.  In fact inners and sleeves that are a bit too tight is a real problem these days.  I'd say inners by 2-3mm and sleeves by 4-5mm.  A bit like CDs they insist on sliding in cardboard sleeves (what's that about?).

Grrr

In the interests of fairness I should point out that Universal Music just refunded me (via Paypal) in full. I had made it clear in my message that I wasn't interested in sending the second copy back, but nor had I asked for a refund.

No e-mail from them asking for me to return the record, or send pictures or anything, just a notification of funds from Paypal.

Still not great obviously, but they can hardly do any more.
