Johnny Winter passed away yesterday aged 70 in his hotel room in Zurich

Very sad news. Johnny was one of the top blues guitar players in history. I was fortunate to see him a couple times in the last few years. Despite having physical limitations, he still played a mean guitar better sitting in chair or stool than most upright players. His speed and tenacity were legendary and his shows in the 70's with Muddy Waters still rank as highlights for me. A new guitar player for the band in heaven. RIP Johnny, you will be missed!

Sat on the train heading home to York, just read this thread title and exclaimed out loud "On no!" much to the amusement of fellow passengers.

But truly sad and a loss to the music I love.

This is very sad news & I seen to have been typing it rather lot recently.

I think this statement from Johnny is a given.... He recently said he just wanted to be remembered as "a good blues musician".

RIP Johnny.

Makes me sad.

So unique. His voice, his appearance, the sound from his guitar.

RIP.

Very Sad. I'm glad I went to see him play in Biloxi, Mississippi back in December 2010. He plays one mean slide guitar. He will be missed.
