James Garner RIP.

I'd only just set the PVR to record the film Grand Prix about two hours ago, and now my wife has told me this. I loved his smooth style. My mum just loved him.

My late Aunt, who lived in Santa Monica, worked for him for a while in the late 1960s and early 70s. She said he was a gent, very astute and very funny, with a self-deprecating sense of humour, to boot.

Liked his films/shows a lot.

Bit disappointed Tony, I was expecting a James Garner joke.

I was house sitting and saw this film [Grand Prix], thinking that Garner must be getting on.

I must stop having thoughts like that ...

I always found his screen appearances enjoyable, and sometimes great as an actor of real quality. Genial, but sometimes genius as well.

My mother passed away in late May after a long illness with Alzheimer's disease.
The Rockford Files was one of those shows that we both watched, traversed the generations.

having said that the DVD set I have at the moment has not traversed to the next generation, but I'll have to have a look at a few over the coming week nonetheless.

Very sad news. I was a real fan. I loved his genial, let's just take things as they come attitude. And he was no mean actor.

If you want a sense of James Garner the man watch the movie Murphy's Romance. He put a lot of himself in his portrayal of the middle aged Murphy.

James Garner and his gold Firebird were a staple with me on the "Rockford Files" as a teen. A great show in its time and he was an endearing actor.
