Ry Cooder 'Live on Air'

This is very well recorded -  dem-quality radio sessions. A real musical gem.

Good to know about for the Ry Cooder fan who spends years between new releases.  I have never seen it, and it does not seem to be available in the US.  Is it a DVD or CD or what?  Is it newly recorded, or a compilation of older stuff?

Would you mind posting a track list or a reliable link to it?

It is available as a CD or DVD through most retailers. The DVD quality is awful.

It has not been licensed by Ry so grab it while you can.

Also Bonnie Raitts Lost Broadcast is out as well and you should also grab that as well.

The DVD gets poor reviews for the FILM quality but the CD sound is superb.

My order is in.  I have never gotten a bad music recommendation from this forum.  My wife will love both of these, and they should be here by Mother's Day.

The Bonnie Raitt should be fun to listen to, if the sound is decent.

On the Cooder CD, is this a compilation of previously released material, or new releases of older material,  is it new stuff?

It is live studio/radio broadasts from his early albums, Ry Cooder, Paradise & Lunch, Into the Purple Valley and Boomers Story.

Ry gives nice intros to most songs, explaining their origin & content.

I'm off to investigate the Bonnie Raitt now!

The early albums are the best, and I have them all on either vinyl or Japanese CD.  It will be fun to have live radio cuts of his greatest hits.

Have you heard Ry's Showtime?  I have that on vinyl, and it is as good as it gets, live with his great small band.

....I have them all Skip.

Jeez I hate to go near Amoeba, it's always $100+

I only have the self titled and 'Borderline'  pulled them out on vinyl for later today.

Received mine today.  Ry and Bonnie both.  Thanks for the tip!  Nothing about the provenance on Ry's CD, but sounds like early 70's.  Bonnie Raitt, on the other hand, has a full set of liner notes, and dates from the same period. Both sound as good as anything they have done.

I think you are right about the Ry album. But I can find nothing on it online.   It plays like an early greatest hits, live, and it is comparable to the great Showtime in many ways.   A little rough in spots. Early Bobby King.  Like Into the Purple Valley but more evolved.  Right between Paradise and Lunch and Chicken Skin Music based on the song selection.   I like this better than his new stuff.

If you go to the site, you can see the whole set.  FourWorlds'  business appears to be releasing unauthorized recordings from radio tapes.  Is this legal in the UK?  In the US?  I am thinking about ordering a few more before they shut down.

This reminds me of the Tom Waits Jukebox unauthorized CD that somebody recommended here a few years back.    Great tips from the Naim Forum, always.
