"Composer" menu item not working on ND5-XS

Posted by: Graeme MacArthur on 06 August 2014

This isn't an important issue but it annoys me.

On my NDX-5S, if I select the "Composer" menu item in UPnP the unit says "Please Wait", then "Restoring History" and then goes back to the menu list (Artist/Album, By Album, Composer etc.). It will not show the list of composers. All other menu items work fine.

On n-Stream there is no problem, everything works as it should i.e. a list of composers is shown on selection. I am using a Synology NAS with their Media Server software. Everything is updated to the latest version and I have re-indexed the database, cleared the UPnP cache and restarted the ND5 and the NAS. It's hard to know where the problem lies with n-Stream behaving properly but the ND5-XS not.

It's a relatively new issue - in the last month at a guess.

Anyone have any ideas?

I solved this with endless tinkering. It's unlikely anyone else will get the problem but it seems it was due to spaces typed as Composer tags rather than just leaving the field completely blank.

I looked in Audio Station on my Synology drive and found that besides the "Unknown Composer" (where my blank, non-classical, composer information chooses to reside) there were three unlabelled folders. I found that these each referred to albums that must have had spaces inserted in the Composer field, instead of being left completely blank. I amended these tags and everything now works as it should.
