Can anyone explain this ??

I have a QNAP NAS 212 running Twonky feeding my NDX. Every time I rip new cd's, I loose some artwork on N Stream.. Tried clearing the cache, running a disc scan on the QNAP, turning it on and off, all to no avail. Then yesterday, went to I Radio and later back to UPNP at which point, the artwork re-appeared. Anyone else had this ??, its driving me nuts. I am considering the Asset option but I've read people having issues with that too. Any help/advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, John

Might be Rovi (the metadata linking co that provides the album art)

We had a post thread on this a few weeks ago, the art was slow & on/off over quite a number of days. I haven't seen any bad stuff recently myself,  but keep it in mind as a possible cause of your problem.

John...I have the Qnap 112, running the latest Twonky App, (Wonky Twonky as we call it on here!) feeding my ND5 XS. It is a bit hit and miss. Most times it is Ok, but sometimes Pink Floyd's 'Dark Side Of The Moon', shows the artwork for Abba's Greatest Hits!! With a similar problem with other albums and their artwork. Don't know if it's Twonky, or N-Stream...or a bit of both!

It will be interesting to see how it behaves, when the new Naim App comes out next month.

I have also tried Assett, the artwork was all over the place!

Would it be worth trying out asset or minimserver (which is free) to see if this makes things better.

Hi Guys

I too have this problem (or something very similar) and I'm running Asset!

I've found that clearing the caches helps but doesnt cure completely. Im currently running nStream in UPnP Compatibility Mode which, whilst a little basic, doesnt seem to give me a problem and thus avoids offending my OCD!

interested to hear there's a software update coming soon ... Hope it helps because i suspect this is nstream rather than asset or even wonky's fault

Rovi (or some other online source) provides album art only when the cd is ripped by a Naim server.  While Rovi is available to provide info (via the little i button) in n-Stream for any album it recognizes, it does not provide album art to the database that way; only when a cd is ripped on a Naim server.

I suspect it's the server, not the client (n-Stream).

I too have a qnap ts412 running minimserver and occasionally have to clear the upnp and image cache takes seconds then all is restored to normal.

Hi all, thanks for your replies, really helpful and nice to know its "not just me". As suggested, I think i'll wait for the new app and then maybe look at Asset or Minimserver. I'm not great with computers and have looked at the various different ripping nas options and all seem to have issues of one kind or the other. I would have a long hard think about saving up for a Unitiserve but there seems to be enough posters on here that have issues with that to make me think "hang on a minute". Thanks again for your posts. John

Gents I have mentioned this a fair number of times, but I will do so again, try PLEX server on your Nas, if it will take it (the little qnap 212 wont)

It dishes up music really nicely, allows for corrections to be made to music within the interface and even dishes up gorgeous Artist pictures on your nStream (so when in artist view you see the actual artists not generic folders)

Plus in my experience its rock solid for music delivery.

Gary, thanks for the prompt. I have looked at PLEX player and it looks interesting. Could you answer some question with Naim integration before I decide to spend a few hours setting up?

  • Can PLEX load playlists into the Naim steamer so the streamer can pull back the media?
  • if not, does the playlist/album continue to play if the client app is shut down or in sleep.
  • Does PLEX support gapless playback and cue forward/backwards with Naim

Thanks

Simon
