NAC & NAP Last Updates? PSU Requirements?

Posted by: endlessnessism on 30 August 2014

I am thinking of upgrading from an integrated amp (Nait XS + Hicap) to a NAC + NAP.   I don't think this is a necessary step as I'm pretty satisfied with the Nait XS but I need another amp in a secondary location elsewhere in the house so I figure I might as well move the Nait XS and go for a bit of an upgrade in my main location.

Main sources are HDX + Sonos into nDAC.

I will only do this if I can buy second-hand, and also re-use the Hicap on the NAC.

Depending on what I can get at a good price, I will probably go NAC 202 + NAP 200, or NAC 282 + NAP 200.  NAC 282 + NAP 250.2 would be a brilliant result but is probably beyond me just now even at second-hand prices.

When were these NACs and NAPs last updated?  In other words, if I buy second-hand, how many years back can I go and still get a current model?  A well-known auction site has examples from, say, 2006 and they at least look pretty current.  Even if there have been upgrades perhaps they're not so significant?

Also, am I right in thinking that both the 202 and the 282 will take a Hicap, and the NAPs don't need a PSU?

Sorry - this probably should have gone to the hi-fi corner.

If you look on the Naim web site you can find a product history page that shows when each model was introduced, replaced and updated

If you are striving for 282/250.2 then look at the older 52/250 (serviced), a much better combo for less $

I'd avoid 202/200, its just an upgraded" 102/180 and really a sidegrade vs your current

282 derived from 82 which was a scaled down 52

Also rumours are new range of amplication around the corner making s/h prices even better
