10 X factor: US Record players....

Posted by: Shaun McCullagh on 07 September 2014

I'm conscious that our American cousins read this forum, I just want say this post is somewhat tongue in cheek dudes...

Browsing higherfi I note the approximate ten X price factor:

Turntable: $300k The Dereneville VPM cf. LP 12 Limited Edition £25k

Power Amplifier: $650k The Pivetta is hilarious weighing in at at one and a half tons and requires 6,400 amps from one's consumer unit. I guess one could get a small substation built for a few £100k. But it does deliver 160,000 watts.
Oddly enough made in Italy cf. Naim Statement £125k

Best of all the aptly named Moon Opulence loudspeaker: $1.1M cf. Focal Grand Dame £100k

Clearly the more expensive products must be at least ten time better than the cheap alternatives

LOL

The law of "Diminshing Returns" sets in at c.£1k for most people in the west. At this price-point they already have more than 99% of what they want.

i remember posting about this mob(higherfi) about 6/9 months ago. The prices of most kit they sell are stark raving bonkers. That said their must be punters buying from them or they would have gone skint by now

Scrolling thru there Website makes for interesting reading !!

Come on, we're all just a little bit jealous.

Now we know how the anerage bloke on the Clapham omnibus feels when he stumbles across the Naim website and simply can't belive that anybody in his right mind would spend £1k on a Muso, or £250k on a Statement/Focal system.

Does that mean it will bypass my tinnitus too?  May have to look into that...
