What is wrong with these people?

"Mrs Tenni said "everybody agreed the lane was an accident waiting to happen" because two oncoming cars could no longer pass each other without somebody giving way.

"I think we still have half a pole stuck up our mudguard, my husband hit one twice," Mrs Tenni said."

There isn't room to pass so her husband just kept driving anyway. Twice.

Exactly. Any council that wastes $100k on such project that nobody really needs, is mad !!

Regardless of the merits of the cycle lane (and I don't generally support cycle lanes), I was really talking about the idiocy of the driver. No room? Drive through anyway.

It's quite obvious that there's enough room for a four-lane motorway there - those bloody cyclists don't need a cycle lane - and the pedestrians don't need all that space either, besides they don't pay any tax for the use of the pavement anyway...

Ok I'm here in Vernon so I Can't take pictures of the selfish cyclists back in the UK who seem to think they own the footpaths and canal towpaths. My point being that it's PEOPLE, not just motorist who are selfish. it just happens that there are a lot more motorists than cyclists these days so a lot more examples of selfishness to draw upon.

It isn't selfishness that I was commenting on. It was stupidity.

Concrete bollards might help .

What really pisses me off round our way though is cyclists on the pavement. Not gently wending their way through the walkers but up out of their saddles expecting everybody to make way for them. On the fekking pavement.

Are you in Brisbane?

Here in Vernon the council is proposing to reduce carriageway widths from 3.5m to 3.25m in order to reduce maintenance costs by $0.3m pa. if they closed the roads to motorists and only permitted cyclists they would save a Whole lot more $$$$ and upset a whole lot more people !!!! Seems like a Win-Win situation to me if they adopt my proposal. what's wrong with these people ??

Whilst I would generally support anything that seriously inconveniences motorists, the Veronon council in this case is miguided.

1) They will kill cyclists with this move.

2) They will also not save a dime. The effect of 2-3 tonne SUVs and pickups (seemingly the only vehicles allowed to be registered and driven in Vernon) driving with one or two of their (typically) dual rear wheels over the edge of the road on the gravel will just destroy the roads from the edge in. Those of you from the UK and the rest of Europe would rightfully wonder why we Canadians would choose to drive large commercial vehicles for fun (usually hauling nothing but the driver) - but we do. Compensating for something? I don't know.

I guess your suggestion to turn all but the highway into bike paths makes the most sense.

Nice article about cycling in Copenhagen (with a nice Nowegian slant, just for George). Predictably followed by the aussie bogan-brigade comments. (I'm starting to think aussie bogans' obsession with pointing out that some cyclists wear lycra/spandex might be due to some supressed tendencies).
