New app - help please!

Posted by: MRJ 1960 on 26 September 2014

after getting the new app on both my iPhone and iPad (both with ios8) I cannot get to grips with it and my server. the only way I can get it running is with the remote. To get any sense out of the selection of folder/album/track for me is impossible. We get 'selection added' but nothing gets there, also once running I can rarely get the album track listing up and even if I can I cannot get the track I want to play.

help Please

Try rebooting the server and streamer. If that doesn't work, you should contact Naim support.

Or go back to the old version until IOS 8 get's sorted out. I am never the early adapter of totally new versions.

Not sure if I have the same issue but having "upgraded" to iOS8 my iPad won't see the upnp files saying there is no server. I have reset my NDX to factory setting and rebutted the symbology NAS to no success. Ipad controls other inputs including iPod. NDX says network is connected ( by cable).

anyone got any ideas please?

Hi all

thanks for the replies, but after rebooting etc. still had the same issues. However a little nag in my head from reading other posts got me to see where I was with my Uniti firmware. After updating to the latest, re booting all devices and letting the Uniti settle down with the app (for some reason it did not happen directly after) I have a working app. Getting used to the 'queue' system took a small amount of time, but now I would say a reserved 'good job' to Naim, but keep it going.

hope this helps some other frustrated members!

I tried rebooting NAS and NDX, ipad now sees music on NAS but wont play it. App plays internet radio and iPod okay but I mostly use the NAS music. Very annoying that it won't work when it did before the upgrade

naimtheday - What firmware is the NDX on?

Posted on: 01 October 2014 by hungryhalibut
That may well be the issue- if you are not on 3.22 get the streamer updated.

It is on 3.6.00, boot version 1.2.17. How do I update this please? it has a wired network connection.

thanks

Find your NDX on the website and go to manuals and downloads. You'll find the instructions. You need to use a windows laptop, connected to the NDX with the appropriate lead.

Thanks as ever HH, I have sussed what I need to do, searched through my trusty box of cables and of course I don't have the right one. Now ordered so when postie comes I will be able to do it.

NTD,

I have a UQ1, which I would think is older than your NDX; I updated the firmware, and I believe it made a difference in the reliability of connections to iRadio and to my UPnP servers. It makes sense that as the associated software is updated that the hardware needs to be current as well.

I did my update from a macbook air, so a windows computer may not be necessary, if that is a factor for you.

Finally, I had...considerable grief with the new app but it appears to have 'burned in', so to speak. I would say that it is working well. The interface is not entirely to my liking but it does have some nice features and I think they did put some very good effort into designing it.

Hi Damon

I have an iMac running OS X Mavericks (10.9.5). Did you manage to load the required software on to your Macbook air ok? What OS X are you running? The 'Serial Driver' needs to be obtained via a third party, in order to load the Naim updates, but it only goes up to OS X 10.7 (Mountain Lion).

I already have 3.22 on my ND5 XS, but I think a new update is very imminent, so looking a head really.

Ah good, I'm glad you worked it out. My SuperUniti has a USB Mini B connection and I wasn't sure whether the NDX is the same. You will need to get the driver installed onto the laptop before doing the update, but if you follow the instructions carefully it will all be ok. It's such a shame you can't just press 'update' on the app and it all just happens, but it seems this is not possible. At least if you get 3.22 working, 3.23 will be easy, when it comes.

David,

Yes, I did it all from a MBA. I downloaded the updater from Naim, clicked on the link in the PDF to get the USB > RS 232(?) drivers, connected things, and it all went according to plan. It seemed to go through two updates. I think that Mountain Lion is the minimum system it needs, and Mavericks was no problem.  And yes, I was amazed and relieved.

I do know that I needed to special order the cable with the correct 232 end for the UQ; there are two and the commonly available cable was the mirror of the socket on the Naim.

Glad you got things sorted. It can be a bit of a challenge, sometimes!

Nice one, thanks Damon.

Well I managed to get my ware firmed up to 3.22, that was the easy bit. Now despite numerous reboots of router, NAS, NDX and ipad on ios8 my iPad sees music played via NDX remote. I can nudge it on to the next track but I can no longer see all my music on NAS. The ipad will control internet radio and my classic iPod however. Am I missing some vital step?

I tried adding muso but I don't know what to do from there.

Go to the main page in the app and tap on the settings gear cog in the top right. choose Input settings and then UPnP and make sure that the UPnP Input enabled is ticked.

Thanks to all for your advice and help. I managed to update the firmware easily enough once I had an RS232 cable but I could not get consistent and usable access to my music on NAS despte numerous reboots until (it may be a fluke?) I also rebooted a switch that was running between the router and the NDX. ?Being an unintelligent device I saw no point in touching it. Maybe I was wrong but it seems to have resolved the main problem.

Now all I need to do is master the new Naim software, is there a link to explain the basics?

Best

wishes

Network switches are not as dumb as they seem,  the so called unmanaged switches need to "learn" the MAC adresses connected on their network & then they will only receive & send to those addresses

With the various devices turned on while the switch is off, & once all the devices have completed their start sequences & are running,  turn on the switch & it will then learn the MAC addresses on the network.

NTD,

Over the course of several years, and multiple evenings of frustration, I've found that when making a change to some part of the system (software, I mean) that turning things off, and even unplugging them for a bit, makes a bit difference. The boxes aren't too smart, but they can be stubborn. The complete power cycle does seem to let the various internals get their bits and bytes sorted into the correct order.

I found the on-off necessary with the n-stream > Naim app change as well.
