Cream in a box – will it be AAA?

We can only hope!

“The complete studio and live album catalogue of peerless 1960s rock trio Cream is to be gathered together as a boxed set for the first time.

Each album will feature exact reproductions of the highly striking original artwork from the releases, and will be pressed on 180 gram heavyweight audiophile vinyl, housed in a rigid slipcase box.

Released on November 24, the collection is titled ‘Cream: 1966-1972,’ as it extends beyond the group’s two years of active recording between the summer of 1966 and late 1968 (and the albums ‘Fresh Cream’ from ’66, 1967″s ‘Disraeli Gears’, 1968″s ‘Wheels Of Fire’ and the swansong ‘Goodbye’, released early in 1969) to the two albums of concert material released after the band’s split, 1970’s ‘Live Cream’ and 1972’s ‘Live Cream Volume 2.’ Each of these live sets recorded at performances by the band in San Francisco in 1968”

Will anything be done about the sound quality ?

The sound is what it was forty seven years ago. And it's still wonderful.

I wish someone would re-release this Fela Kuti/Ginger Baker Live! album.

It is absolutely kick arse. The drumming is something else.

I have all their original LPs in wonderful condition so I'll definitely pass on this one.

Agree about the Fela Kuti album, it's really good and worth looking out for.

Same here.I've got the first two mono copies which sound superb so unless these are AAA mono's I'll stick with what I've got.

I remember watching Gingers African drum journey documentary on B&W TV round my uncles in the very early 70s.

My set have been returned for refund due to dull as dishwater sonic quality.

I'll keep an eye open for originals pressings cos i do like Cream musically.

But really glad to see the back of the duff reissue box-set.

Debs

Debs,

I only found this  LP in the set to be on the dull side.

All the others are anything but dull.

Stu,

i listened to all 7 LPs at least once, and each time was very disappointed.

All album copies in my box had a very very poor flat dull SQ.

good luck to you if you like 'em ; )

Debs

Debs,

I am happy with them.

The couple of originals i have sound quite dull.

That said they have been played to death on many TTs since there release.

Then again you like the latest Led Zepp vinyl releases and i can't stand them.

So at the end of the day its each to there own.

I bought a box set of the Cream studio and live LPs in the late 70s - they were German DMM pressings, and the sound quality was disappointingly poor. The mantra that vinyl is always better than CD is somewhat flawed.

Gary,

I have DMM CCR thick vinyl.

I much prefer the latest 180g Back to Black LPs.

Stu,

Why did you buy them then?

I merely tolerate the LZ reissues cos they are all i have and digital led zep is better than no led zep,

but i was disappointed enough with HOTH to send it back due to it's annoying variation in necessary volume level which is probably due to being 'LOUDED' up in the remaster.

Buying any good enough condition original issue is ofter very difficult unless you know where to go and who to buy from, and early LZ vinyl can be expensive.

Debs,

I bought them on CD and Vinyl with the extra stuff and new cover artwork  so i could judge with my own ears.

Also as you know i am a bit of a LZ completest.
