PS555 for hdx or naim dac

Posted by: shing on 27 September 2014

I am running the hdx-ndac via bnc currently. Which would benefit from a ps555 more? The hdx or ndac? Would running the hdx and ndac with its own ps555 be a waste of funds?

Thanks for all your forthcoming replies.

Cheers

The DAC. By a huge margin. But no need to take my word for it. You can try it on both for yourself.

The 555PS on the nDac is a wonderful combination so I would agree with Harry. I feed my nDAC from the digital output of a CDX2.2 which is separately powered by an XP5XS.  Out of curiosity my dealer and I once swopped out the XP5XS on the CDX2.2 for the 555PS and the benefit was marginal.  In contrast swopping an XP5 for a 555PS powering the nDAC was immense.

The Dac Will benefit, you will lift the quality of the sound to great heights.

If your using the n-dac with your hdx, you need 2 use the power supply for the n-dac.Using a power supply on your hdx only power's the dac in your hdx,

i tried a 555dr on my ndx and then on my ndac. I was using the ndx into the ndac. With this combo the 555 was better with the ndx, by quite a large margin. I assume the 555 must not be as fully utilised on the hdx.

Yep, to add to the consensus, 555PS on the NDAC is a great combo... Give it a whirl and you can hear for yourself

Thanks for all your replies. ps555 --> to ndac it is then. Out of curiosity, if the DAC section of the HDX is not being utilized, does upgrading of any power supply to HDX worth while at all?

If your not using the dac in your hdx, then yes your right, theirs not point in having a power supply for it, because it will be doing nothing.
