App fault or human error
Posted by: True Blue on 28 September 2014
Hi all, just returned home and downloaded android app on both samsung galaxy tab 2 and samsung galaxy ace. Very nice. However I cannot control the volume at all. Ive found the buttons but pressing does nothing. Is this a known fault or am I being stupid.
Hdx and 282 for vol control?
No cables. My fault. So what do I need to connect and where from? Many thanks.

You need a cheapo phono to 3.5" jack plug, like an ipod headphone plug to phono cable.
Connect the jack plug to the remote out socket on the NDX and the phono to the PC in socket on the pre. Only the left chanel (white) connection on my cable works.
Currently the volume adjustment on the Android application is very iffy, but no doubt this will be fixed in a future release, a few of us have reported issues.
Richard
Paragraph 2.11 and 4.9 of the NDX manual describe how to connect and how to do the settings.
Thanks all will try tomorrow
Ok got it working now thanks all. Only problem now is the volume control on the new app is TERRIBLE. Hopefully update soon.

Perfectly OK on mine with NDX SN2.

The volume control problem is affecting Android, Graeme - I suspect you are using an Apple device?

Some seem to have issues but volume control is fine with my Superuniti - smooth and immediate response to slider and you can "jump" the volume by touching once up or down the line - nice one.
The volume control on mine has got stuck a few times - exiting the play queue and then going back wakes it up. I'd like the mute and booklet buttons to be a bit further way though, rather than being squashed so close to the volume slider.

Yes, I should have said that my issue is with the android app where you do not get a slider, just horrible + & - buttons that do not work,
Ah well I suppose that I will have to invest in an Ipad now, Grrr

I'm on an iPad with + & - 'buttons' (icons) and it's working well.

You only get a slider for a Uniti product where the amp is built into the streamer.
For systems where there is system automation you get - and + buttons instead, this is because the streamer can only send up and down volume commands to the pre-amp and has no idea what the volume actually is as the communication from the streamer to pre-amp is one way.
This is the same for Android and Apple controllers. The issue at the moment is that the - and + buttons on Android are unresponsive at best.
No doubt this will be fixed so I'd hold fire on that iPad, unless you want an excuse to buy one!

So the slider is only available for Uniti devices? In that case, the app must know what it's controlling. What I'd like to see is the SuperUniti's volume setting on the iPad screen, avoiding the need to peer across the room like Mr Magoo to see the Super's screen.

Thanks for the info Richard,
Although I see you can get the original ipad mini for around £160 now that ipad mini 2 has come out,
Hmm tempting...........
