Gapless playback from Synology

Please can anyone confirm that they can achieve gapless playback using a Synology Media Server and DSM 5?

I know there have been numerous posts on gapless playback but I have not been able to get my Synology Media Server to do this.

My set up is : rip using XLD to FLAC stored on DS212J. UPnP using Media Server transcoding to WAV to ND5 XS and iPad control point.

My test music has been Dark Side of the Moon 30th anniversary edition on SACD and there are distinct pauses between tracks when it should be seamless.

As a temporary solution I can achieve gapless playback by ripping DSOTM to USB and using my Netgear router as a UPnP server. This plays back in FLAC but can only be a temporary fix. So it seems to me that the problem lies with the Synology Media Server?

I run Media Server on a DS214 under DSM 5.0-4493 and since upgrading the firmware on the NDX achieve flawless gapless playback. Only difference is that I stream FLAC not WAV.

Hello Mike-B,

I got the same: NDX, 214, DSM 5.
Can you change the sorting of the albums (covers in the app) into a-z interprets NOT a-z albumtitles.
ANd can you confirm that covers sorted in a-z albumtitles is not very practicable?

Hi Marcus, I'm not sure I understand what your problem is ....

The other problem is I am away from home & not able to look into app details until saturday

In the app (both the old & new) I have a menu list of album sorting ............

In sub folder Music they are listed by ........

Folder

Artist

Album

Artist/Album

Album/Artist

Genre .......... & some more I can't remember

These can be sorted into A-Z in some sections

I do not like or want to see album covers (if thats your question), I prefer to have the page small & easily readable. I also tend to view & select in the sub folder "Folders"

No gapless playback for me either with my 213j. It would also be nice if there was a way to display album art when browsing by folder, the azure default image is a tad garish.

Gap less playback was fine when i streamed FLAC files, for me the gaps are caused when i transcode to WAV on the fly

This is a bug with the Synology media server when you transcode flac to wav. You will need to use Minimstreamer for gapless playback.

Thank you to everyone who has replied to this post. Apologies for the delay in responding but I live in Oz so am 9 hrs ahead of UK. I have gone back to streaming in FLAC instead of transcoding to WAV. I can confirm that I now have gapless playback on DSOTM so am happy. I now need to work out how to clear the cache in the new Naim app. I may consider installing Minim server and see how that compares.
