MusicFlow after iOS8 upgrade
Posted by: Phill82 on 01 October 2014
Any other MusicFlow users found that the App has stopped finding their streamer, after upgrading to iOS8? I use an iPhone 4S, don't know if that would make any difference...

Yes, this was mentioned in a prior thread a few months back (prior to iOS 8 public release)–this has to do with changes to the method in which AirPlay discovery is handled.
The Mu-so likely does not suffer from this issue.

OK, thanks.
Any chance of a link to that thread, as I can't find it...?
Guess I'll just have to get rid of my ND5XS/DAC/282/250 and get a mu-so instead...

What files are you streaming to the ND5 via MusicFlow? Lossless, or lossy?
How's the quality of MusicFlow directly to the ND5, vs. Airplay to an Airport Extreme to the ND5?

Bart: I only use(d) MusicFlow for casual/background listening to things like Spotify or catch-up radio shows, so can't really comment on the sound quality, sorry. And I've never used an Airport Express or anything else, so can't comment of that comparison either!

David: Thanks for the link, although I can't see anything in that thread referring to anything relating to AirPlay changing with the introduction of iOS 8...? MusicFlow worked fine when I was running iOS 7 (and it still does work on my wife's phone, which is still on iOS 7), just not since I did the update to iOS 8.

AirPlay in iOS 8 is quite different in the manner by which it discovers AirPlay sinks (spakers, AirPort Express, etc.)–they must be capable of Wi-Fi Direct mode (which the Uniti / NDx family is not–requires infrastructure network).
In short - AirPlay on iOS 8 cuts out your home network entirely (and, therefore, Uniti / NDx products which require it).

Thanks for the explanation, David - frustrating!
