The Mu-so has landed

Posted by: Steve J on 06 October 2014

John Lewis had one in the local store. They give a 2 year warranty so I couldn't resist. Very easy to set up with the Mu-so app, about two minutes. Initial impressions of SQ are good even from switch on.

and more than 10 available on their on line store

Congrats,  Steve. Put the kettle on,  I'll be there in 30 mins.  Enjoy it!

Steve,

Nice way to buy such an item.......walk in, pay for it and take it home.... Bit like the highly sucessful Richer Sounds.

Must go down to John Lewis to check it out.

Enjoy!

Richard O

p.s. I guess traditional Hi-Fi shops wil need to "buy to stock" rather than "buy to order" otherwise customers may go for a dem then pop round to John Lewis to buy one, pick it up there and then and take it home.

Looks great! Congratulations!

... And I guess you just buy it, take it home, plug it into the mains and it works!

Very simple to set up Richard. Just download the Mu-so app, which I had already done, and it leads you though the wifi set up. There are also radio presets already installed on the app. Basically off you go. ATM I'm just using Airplay from my MacMini system. This is only as good as the wifi signal strength which, luckily, is excellent at both ends. I control it via the Remote app on the iPad. My wife didn't know anything about me buying one but it got the necessary seal of approval when she came home from playing Bridge this evening.

Ah, but how long before they start breeding, and ousting Olive?

Poor old Olive was ousted in this abode years ago now John. Actually no. I still have the CDI in the wife's system upstairs.

Steve,

Very nice looking piece of kit. Is the naim logo white to match your next upgrade  Enjoy.

Graham.

I have to say that lit up logo in the perspex base would have looked so cool in traditional Naim green, but that's progress for you. It still looks better than its competition from Sonos, Bose or B&W.

Glad you like the Mu So Steve. I quite fancy one for our conservatory but I can't quite get how you access the music on your Mac Mini. Do you have to install uPnP, or do you just use iPlay?

That's the system I was thinking of. How long before the new kid(s) muscle in?

I control the iTunes library via the Apple Remote app on the iPad Tony. ATM just using Airplay but I have excellent wifi signal at both ends so SQ is good.

Time for you to come for another visit. You're always welcome.

Now my knee's been modernised, I'll take you up on that Steve!

That's the best picture I've seen of it, looks great with the logo lit up. Hopefully you'll feed back your experience once you've got used to it?  Fancy one for under my telly and in the conservatory.  Enjoy

Thanks dayjay. I had heard it before so I knew it was good for the price and I was pleasantly surprised with how it sounded from switch on. When it's had a little time to come up to speed and I've tried a few more of the inputs I'll let you know.

Steve it looks like it was made to measure for that placement

No mention of extended warranties when I asked the question of Naim at our event last week. In fact, they advised 12 months as standard, but then questioned this given the John Lewis 2yr warranty, so I would like to think that this may well become the warranty period offered by Naim for all mu-so customers.

What I can say is that it stole the show on Thursday and we now have a growing back order situation to deal with. A bit disappointed to see that John Lewis get the product first over the dealer network, but then that's business and buying power for you, I suppose.

Certainly we and other Naim retailers will need to be holding stock of this excellent product. And here's hoping we get to see some stock very soon...

Isn't it the case that under EU rules you have a two-year guarantee period for faults in any case?  From Trading Standards:

"A. EU Directive 1999/44/EC states that all European Union member states must allow consumers to make a claim for faulty or misdescribed goods under their consumer rights for a minimum of two years. English law already allows you to make a claim for up to six years from the date you bought the goods and for up to five years in Scotland. Therefore if you buy any goods from any other EU member state, you can assume that you can make a claim for faulty or misdescribed goods "

My iPad seemed to get less good at picking up wifi after about 18 month; I took it to the Apple store in Regent St. who replaced it without hassle mentioning that the EU directive now superceded their previous one year guarantee. Very impressed.

I ordered mine from John Lewis on Sunday and it arrived today, very quick. Seems to be working fine after the set up. For a quick try I put some music that I had on a 32g stick in mp3 format that I had in my ghetto blaster and it plays fine. However I put some music on another 32g usb stick in the wav format and the muso cannot read it. I tried the stick in the android media player and it plays fine here, can someone tell me why the muso won't play it ?
