The Mu-so has landed
Posted by: Steve J on 06 October 2014
John Lewis had one in the local store. They give a 2 year warranty so I couldn't resist. Very easy to set up with the Mu-so app, about two minutes. Initial impressions of SQ are good even from switch on.
For those who don't think the mu-so has enough power there's always the Phantom. 3000W!
Looks good. Must have a proper read later.
Yes - it was an amusing marketing campaign. They've also announced DIALOG - an intelligent audio router + new Devialet app which combines "all your digital content (stored or online) in an intuitive and smooth way, whatever the file formats (from MP3 to HD audio)"
If it really does allow control of music streaming services and locally stored music - like Sonos but higher quality - then they're definitely onto a winner

Nice
A Google search revealed several articles which are just now hitting the web. This definitely sounds extremely interesting however one thing did strike me. Price wise this does not compete at all with the Muso. A pair of speakers plus the external box (which will allow streaming from an iPhone) will cost $4500 (and an additional $800 if one wants the "Silver" version of the speakers). There will also be powered stands to set them on. A FULL blown setup will cost close to $6000. Certainly not the $1500 which a Muso costs. At that price there are other many other options which come into play and need to be considered.

Eh? It's a one box system like Muso and the top of the range Silver Phantom is about £1500. Are we on the same subject?

That's what I understand - you need a Phantom (roughly £1200 or £1500) + a DIALOG (£250) and you're ready to go. Waiting for confirmation of which lossless streaming services the DIALOG will include.
Yes, you will need two Phantoms if you want full stereo but then again the mu-so is only stereo in a very narrow sense
IMHO neither the mu-so or the Phantom are mass market products they're both far too expensive for that. If someone is prepared to pay a premium for quality they're just as likely to pay £1500 as £895..
Actually the article in the telegraph is a bit iffy and I quote from it "the power and compact of digital with the quality and emotion of analog." - err what.
Also "Also, the “omni-directional sound” (allowing placement of the speaker in any part of a room) is not entirely “omni”" There hasn't been an Omni system that is entirely Omni - whatever entirely Omni means. It is physically impossible.
Gosh that makes me think. How many of you guys remember some of the Omni speakers from the past?
He does not say if the dedicated router is required for any of them to operate.
He does talk about two speakers but I guess he means two units - dunno but a pretty poor article I would say.
But worth keeping an ear to the ground.
Yes PhilP is correct. $1900+$350=$2250 for a one box solution (Muso is $1500 here in the States)
I was pricing out the stereo version - which would seem like the attractive way to go.
The article I read seems to indicate delivery sometime in 2015
Looks like a piece of hardware fit for Skynet! This streaming audio and wireless speaker development go mind-boggling fast.
My Muso works so far, so good. Trying to get optical Toslink from my TV to Muso. Please see my thread in the Home Theater thread. I either need to toggle my Sony TV from Dolby to PCM or buy something to convert one to the other. This has me stumped. The RCA to mini cable works well but I want to try the optical if I can.
Thanks to Paul and all at Naim for the iPhone app software update.
It makes a change that a manufacturer listens to its customers!

My Qute2 only wants PCM from my Samsung TV; I suspect you want to set the TV to PCM output.
I heard a Mu-So at Pro Musica in Chicago. My impression over a day of off and on listening was in a word "MINDBLOWING!"
Value for the money is like nothing I ever heard. I continue to scratch my head as to where I need one at home.

I need one in my kitchen, but I need a "Mu-So Mini."

Me too, the Muso is a bit of a beast. I'd find it much easier to fit a Unitiqute in my kitchen. Then again, a Devialet Phantom might go on my shortlist if I can find some dimensions for it.....?

I can certainly fit a Qute in the space, but even when I turn the volume all the way up, I don't hear music coming out of it.
You are a wag Bart.
I may have spoken too soon.
Just got home and opened the App to listen to the radio and my I phone will not find the Muso, even though the Muso is network wired.
It was fine after the update a couple of days ago.
iPad is fine and works!
Edit to add: I have just deleted and reinstalled the app and still no joy.
I returned to the JL store in Watford where I bought my MuSo in October. Initially I couldn't find the MuSo on display but then found it in their 'listening' room. The manager told me they are selling very well.
I got mine 2-3 weeks ago. I cannot explain it but I had a lot of "connectivity" issues the first week but they somehow just vanished without any tinkering. I think I reconnected using the little hole once. It seems to work best if you synch with your phone or tablet first and let the naim ap use the wireless connection to synch
Slightly off topic but I was intrigued recently to see a large number of Naim retailers on the Find a Retailer map/tool on the main website - certainly more than I was expecting to show up. I then realised that a significant proportion of them were John Lewis and Richer Sounds.
I did then wonder whether it might be helpful for Mu-so only retailers to be shown with a different coloured "pin" on the map - but perhaps I'm loooking at it from the wrong perspective.
