The Mu-so has landed
Posted by: Steve J on 06 October 2014
John Lewis had one in the local store. They give a 2 year warranty so I couldn't resist. Very easy to set up with the Mu-so app, about two minutes. Initial impressions of SQ are good even from switch on.
You must have felt like a right Charlie....

Nice one!
I've even read the manual and I haven't got a Mu-so, looks like it may be a xmas present though.
Why wait for Christmas? Think of it as a reward for having to deal with all of the pre-Christmas dross; JL had Christmas Trees (artificial) on display yesterday!
Picked mine up from the dealer at lunchtime. Got home plugged power cable in, plugged LAN cable in and was up and running in less time than it took to open the box!
I thought I was doing so well until it took me half an hour to open the remote control to remove the tab from the battery. I think I'm in line for a Darwin Award for that one!
Yes, that bloody battery cover was a bugger to remove.
Sat here for 30 mins working out your acronym H, made me laugh!!

Not just me then!
Well, John Lewis on line are out of stock already! Not much hope of a demo there then, until restocked. Richer Sounds Birmingham stated on Wednesday that only certain branches would stock - presumably those with no nearby Naim dealer? They did say they had 65 on the way company wide though.
There is a need to clarify the warranty. JL offer 2 years as standard, which is normal for them. Extended warranty also available, similarly from Richer. Can any purchasers from Naim specialists clarify what the Naim standard warranty is?
on another tack, the Focal Dimension has a lot of similarities to Muso, including price, but as a straight soundbar, ie with better tv potential but no direct airplay, spotify etc. the out put (450watt) is similar, though with different speakers. Has anyone heard this? I wonder how it compares.

30 minutes. really? ROFLMAO.
Now that one was a bit more obvious Nigel, instantaneous in fact!
It took me a little while to find it as it was tucked away with the dab radios and had no POS. No music was connected up to it but used my phone to BT which was pretty easy. Had I not then as a customer I would have walked as no one approached me to help and no music was connected. Looks quite attractive and felt very solid. SQ my wife and I were very disappointed. We have something similar in the kitchen from UE which cost a fraction and honestly didn't offer enough for me to consider. Perhaps it was the environment but something didn't click.
Had a listen in Bristol Audio T this morning whilst popping in for something else.
Was extremely impressed with the sound and I'm sure I'll get one eventually. Better half agreed! Amazing sound per pound!
philm, sq needs to be set in the app really, loudness on
/off positions near and way from the wall all make a big difference, your files etc , it's def not separates but it is fun, maybe another time
Settling in nicely with my Mu-So, everything just as I had hoped.
I was just wondering if anyone had connected it up to a TV with a Toslink. I get a nice "click" connection at the TV but it won't connect into the Mu-So it just drops out. I've got it held in with blue tac!! The cable is a Chord Company Opticord purchased brand new today.

I got that problem when I used optical out from TV to SuperUniti (don't know what cable it was but it worked fine in Cambridge Audio DAC) Maybe Naim need to double-check their spec. sheets?
There can be variances on connectors will look into it
Cheers Paul, in the meantime the wife and I are having a wee dance whilst the Mu-So belts out Roxy Music. This wee machine knows how to party. It's definitely got the Naim thing going on musically, just draws you into the music. Forget the technology blah blah blah it's always about the music and the
Mu-So is a winner in this respect. For some this will be the "gateway drug" that pulls them into better hifi. For others it's gonna be a party animal and for others it'll be all the "hifi" they ever need.
The DAC V-1 I borrowed had difficulty with some designs of Tos-link plugs.
Similar to the problems with the Hugo connections early players had too small a gap around the phono sockets I believe.
Just a quick question, can you attach a disc drive to the usb input to play cd's?
No not possible sorry, analog input via mini jack.

My wife made the same sort of comment, that the Mu-So drives the music along in the same manner as our full system. A clear win over a Sonos based muzak system.
But, still having small operational issues. Pre-set 3 is set to R4, but after a re-start the preset will NOT reconnect R4; I have to go to Naim's choice and select R4 there and re-mount it as pre-set 3. The pre-set then works as long as the machine is not switched off (put into standby). This is the only station/preset affected. I may have to see whether there is a simple incompatability between R4 and PS3.
And the manual says that up to 40 stations 'can be stored,' but not available though the pre-set button. I like the use of the word 'can.' There is absolutely NO hint of how this might be done. Reminds me of Fermat's note on his theorem; 'I have a solution which is too large for the margin' and mathematicians then spent the next 200 years seeking a proof.
Brian King and Nick from Suffolk spot on. Naim make world class music delivery systems. Friday night listened to some internet radio jazz for nearly three hours and I have a NAP 300 based system in the room next door! A glass or two of wine added to a magical experience with the Mu-so. Naim have really delivered on this product.
i also like the fact that I can use the iPad and my android HTC One phone to operate the Mu-so.
Mine's due from sunny Herts this coming week. Popped into JL on Oxford St to see one in the flesh on saturday. Fantastic looking bit of kit, the other half even said wow, and not the usual, 'not more speakers'. It was rather obvious, a dedicated staff member standing next to it! She seemed to know her stuff too, she had an iPad and iPhone in her hand (but not the remote) and gave us little demo. She had a usb plugged in, even took the grill off to explain its shape and function. They seemed to have stock but I don't know how many. Cant wait. Will it play play Amazon Music from an iPad does anyone know? Thanks
I took my Mu-so down to a meeting with four other forum friends and it was universally liked for its SQ, looks, build and features. There will be a few more orders going in soon.
Acred, been there
amazon music yes, airplay

Nick, you are an optimist through and through !!
It took 358 years before the proof was published in 1995......................
