Router losses connection after use of new app.

Posted by: CP62 on 08 October 2014

I am getting frustrated with this new app every time it loses connection with my Netgear wdnr 4000.

Yes it is on 3.22 and yes everything is updated. Anybody any ideas how to fix it ? Slowly streaming becomes a nightmare. Everything worked ok with old app.

With the app from Synology  everything works fine. I have a wireless connection but as I use Rovi my router stops working and I have to reboot the router. If I use the streamer with remote no problems.

Something strange happens even with SU not on power but just the use of the app makes that’s  the router crashes. So just the use of the app. Old app worked good. I know Naim is busy with it but are there other people who have crash problem with their routers.

Sorry you are not getting much help on this.

what ever the issues with the app, its drawn out an obviiously far larger issue with your router. Try replacing it and see how you get on.

I'm having similar problems with the app and my su. Everytime I try and use the app it seems to crash my nas and when I finally fire it all up successfully, it only seems to find about 75% of my flac tracks. the old app seemed to work well. I now have to reboot everything almost daily. I even thought it could have been my internet connection strength

Have you tried UPnP Compatibility Mode ON ????

It is a bit featureless & fuzzy art but seems more stable than the mode off & it finds all the files in "folders",  but is a bit iffy in the other search lists.

Also clear the cache in the app & also the SU as this mode is working with SU

I've checked all UPNP on devices etc. All switched on. I then went in and set UPNP compatibility mode ON. It was really slow, found the folders though. Went back out and cleared the cache in the app and then the app was struggling to find my SU again. I have now reset the APP and put my SU in manually using my IP address and the APP seems to work much better at the moment. Interesting!

Hi,

Remember that the app doesn't 'find' anything - it simply asks for lists from your UPnP server and displays what the UPnP server tells it however the UPnP server may be being 'clever' and incorrectly determining that the control point (the app) is the renderer and can't support certain filetypes so doesn't include them in its list.

You can verify whether it's an app issue or a UPnP server issue by picking up the IR remote and browsing you music via the remote and the front panel display - is the missing music still missing?

Hello Paul,

Yes i upgraded to ios8. Today i mailed Steven at Naim. 13-10-2014

Yes everything is updated on the right versions. As I see on the forum I am not the only one with  these problems.

My  Synology apps works perfect.

As soon as I use the Naim app the router lose internet connection. What is strange there still a connection between iPad and SuperUnity. So I change between albums and play them but Rovi does not work because there is no internet connection anymore.

I can also not see in the menu the buttons clear cache and cannot chose between modes for putting UPnP Compatibility Mode ON .

I put some photos of the menu of Synology app and SuperUnity as you can see it changes IP addresses. The app from Synology knows how to work with different ip addresses the Naim not.

I suggest that you fix the IP address via the router, and then set the SuperUniti to the same. Set the addresses that the router assigns to other things to be above the range used by the Hifi. In my case the SuperUniti is .110, the UnitiServe is .120 and backup Synology is .140. The router then does its automatic assigning at .200 and over. This should deal with the problem - assuming of course that the router is a good one in the first place. I was given a router by ee and it was useless, so I bought a DrayTek and it's been rock solid.

CP62,

Your problem is identical to the one I reported last week, only I use the app with the Mu-so. I think the problem has nothing to do with your router and is likely to be caused by iOS8. I have upgraded to version 2 but my wife's iPad is still running version 1. The app on her iPad seems more 'stable' than on mine. However, when streaming via USB I can get Rovi on both iPads but on my wife's I cannot correct if the wrong album is being shown, which I can on mine. They've become minor niggles now but the bug seems to be iOS8 related.

There are a couple of things the Pail S suggested to try. One, make sure the Naim app you downloaded is the latest version. Two, a possible fix for the iOS8 issue. See below.

Hi all,

We've been looking into this and it looks like there has been a known issue with NetGear WNDR3700, WNDR4000, and WNDR4500 routers previously where if they get hit with multiple IGMP requests they basically curl up and die ... we don't have a unit here to test and I would have thought that NetGear would have fixed this by now but can you ensure that your router is updated with its latest firmware?

Cheers

Hello Steve the trick with Wi-Fi settings for iPad did not work.

Disable Port Scan and DoS Protection and  Disable IGMP Proxying

changing the settings did not work. Router is up to date.

So it’s true the app does not work with NetGear WNDR3700,

WNDR4000, and WNDR4500. So which  Router to buy now:

Netgear Nighthawk AC1900 Smart WiFi Router R7000

Asus RT-AC66U ??????????

Posted on: 19 October 2014 by CP62

I bought the Netgear Router R7000 Nighthawk and yes my problems with the Naim app are solved. Not so happy because my previous Netgear router was only two years old. But it solved my problems. So what Steve and Phil said was right about the Netgear routers. Phoned Netgear they did not understand the problem and said the never heard  about this problem.

We've been looking into this and it looks like there has been a known issue with NetGear WNDR3700, WNDR4000, and WNDR4500 routers

So everything work now again. Pfffffffffffffff

Greetings from Holland.

I have just read this.. I can't help feeling if there is a problem with IGMP proxy/Multicast implementation on the Netgear routers (so effectively they have issues with multicast group requests) then a possible workaround feels like a simple switch with no IGMP snooping that connects the wifi access point, UPnP server and Naim network streamer to the Netgear router should work.

The switch will simply blindly broadcast multicast data out. In efficient for large networks but should be fine for the home network. Anyone who is IT literate perhaps could confirm if they are experiencing the Netgrar issue that this workaround works...

Problem here is they'll be using the NetGear as the WiFi access point too ...

Indeed, my suggested workaround would require a seperate wifi AP such as an Apple Airport Express... Which I heartily recommend for media and control point use.
