"Surveys"

Posted by: winkyincanada on 14 October 2014

Just noticed we have new heading at the top of the page. Still has the barely-used "About", "Activity" and "Recent Activity" headings; but still no "Padded Cell". Weren't we told that there was no room on that ribbon?

Well spotted Winky,

No doubt that Hopeless have been tinkering with the website again and at last figured out how to expand the Heading line ribbon.

Now all they have to do is figure out how to type "Padded Cell"

We are all far too polite to actually say what we really think.....................

having looked in the new "Surveys" window, i'm not convinced it serves any useful purpose at present.

The survey headings which are listed are'nt always a helpful guide as to the content and when I "opened" the one suggesting a dedicated "Home Theatre" forum (that was one of mine BTW) there was no link to the original poll and no detail other than the initial question/suggestion.

Yes we were promised Padded Cell on the top banner

I spotted the "Surveys" (chocolate fireguard) in the wee small hours & felt the blood pressure rising,  but what the hell, life's too short.

Padded Cell promises & nStream rev 4, 4.1 heading towards 4-point-whatever & on & on adinfinitum.

- lost the plot comes to mind?   I've lost the will to be bov'rd.

The new "Printer Friendly Format" button that is visible on each post suggests everybody other than me prints off reams and reams of hard-copy for bed-time reading.........................?

Perhaps Hopeless could post a list of new features that were installed last night and a list of any that were withdrawn ? Or should we be excitedly hunting for all the new changes like six year olds on an Easter Bunny Trail ?

It doesn't get any less crap with each "update". They certainly don't seem to look at content to see what the users think. "No point is there really we have NAIMs money ", "what was that?" "customer service?" That's what your famous for isn't it?

"View printer friendly format" function (button) surely is very needed feature for most of us...

It isn't indifference. If they didn't care, nothing would change. But they deliberately change it for the worse. This takes effort. It is simply hostility towards the users, perhaps revenge, as far as I can tell.

Perhaps it's felt that the padded cell doesn't help sell HiFi? Or perhaps some less enlightened motp would deem the very term padded cell offensive, so it must be kept hidden? Perhaps it's no bid deal for some. Helps maintain some exclusivity after all, keeps out the riff and raff.

On a more positive note, has anybody found any useful, good or helpful changes this time round ?

The 'recent activity' button is largely pointless, as you can see the recent posts anyway. Surveys has no value either, as far as I can see. I'd ditch them and add the Padded Cell to the top. I guess it could be called something else, as it is a very negative stereotype and highly offensive to many I'm sure.

...........and the new name for the Padded Cell might be................?

"Intelligent Debates"

"Pub Discussions"

"The Saloon"

"Wits End"

...................or ?

I've been using the forum for a couple of years only so unlike many others have no experience of the pre-Hoop.la era but it see quite a few references to "Hopeless" etc.  I must I say I think it works pretty well.

I rather like Speakers' Corner - a place where you can go to talk about what you like. The trouble is that people will think it's a place to endlessly discuss bloody speakers...... But at least it wouldn't have any negative connotations.

Going full circle, we could set up a survey. Maybe Naim could have a little prize for the best name. A free Mu-so perhaps. And I chose Speakers' Corner first.

Soft Cell, obviously! That should spice it up a bit!
