NAS and Library Issues with Qute2.....HELPPPP

Posted by: Arnsider on 01 November 2014

Hi All,

New to the forums but a long time Naim fan. OK here goes and apologies for any repeated issues in advance!

I replaced my old Nait3 with a Qute2 just under a year ago. Ripped all my CD's in FLAC to a DLink 325 NAS using dBpoweramp with no hassle until the last few weeks when I delved into making playlists for a party......well what a palaver. I've read countless posts on different NAS drives...uPnP servers...Asset....Twonky etc etc....to the point where I'm more confused than ever.....anyway...back to my post..

Problem now is that the last couple of rips from CD show up as normal in my music folder on my NAS but not in my library on the Qute...weird. I also had a file of old MP3's that I had just copied and pasted into a file and dragged that into my music folder on the NAS. This used to show and play on the Qute without any problem at all, but again the Qute now cant see that folder even though its definitey on the NAS!! I have deleted and replaced the folder...but nothing. Hard reboot of everything makes no difference.

Where is the issue here??? Any ideas gratefully received. All was working hunk dory till recently. I managed to sort the playlist issue by making one in MediaMonkey in the end.

I'm so at a loss as to why things are not working as before and if somehow I've "broken" something or inadvertently changed some setting or parameter...please helpppppppp.

Cheers....

Not sure if it will work for you, but I had a similar problem with video files on a NAS a while back. Restarting the server and the NAS itself made everything reappear. Basic, but worth a try if you haven't done it recently.

+1, I had a problem with the upnp server on my old nas that progressively got worse where the database would fail to 'see' or remember some albums and films. Restarting the server helped on occasion. Eventually I gave up on mine and bought a proper server but I still use the original nas as backup as it works fine as a network hard drive

Turn everything off - UQ, router then NAS. Then turn each of them on again, in reverse order, leaving 5 mins between each so they can boot up. Should fix it fine. Post again if not.

Thanks for the replies guys. Followed Solid Air's instructions to the letter and still the same as before

Basically the last CD rip by dBpoeramp shows the CD ripped to the music folder on my NAS but the Qute doesn't see it. Also my created MP3 folder it doesn't see either. All my initial rips are there fine!!

The only thing I didn't do when following Solid's suggestion was to reset the Qute back to factory settings....just a thought as the Qute just seemed to resore its history..

Any other idea?....driving me nuts

Depending on your server software - that is, the media server software running on the NAS, not the NAS itself - you could try a database rebuild. There should be an option along those lines somewhere in the server configuration/maintainance options.

This will likely take a while, so you may want to leave it running over night.

Thanks Dave, I already did that.

Might consider resetting NAS to default settings....?

If I backup to my laptop first would that be ok just to recopy the music back the NAS?

Keep thinking of different things to try

Do you have a media server running on your computer? Does it have the same name as the media server on your NAS?

Do you have a UPnP music renderer on your computer?  Does this show the same issues as the UQ2?

Posted on: 03 November 2014 by Arnsider

No media server on my computer, I just use dBpoweramp to rip CD's....and MediaMonkey to play if I have the computer on.

Obviously what I want is to be able to access all my music on the NAS without having the computer on...

Could it be something to do with MediaMonkey??????

Posted on: 03 November 2014 by Dave***t
Seems unlikely if it still happens with the computer off.

Maybe try checking for strange tagging anomalies in the files concerned with mp3tag?

What program is streaming from your NAS to the Qute?

The Qute only receives what is sent to it by and large, so the problem is most likely on the NAS side.

Are you using the UQ2 remote control to access your music library or are you using the nstream/Naim app?

What, if any UPnP servers show on the UQ2 display/app screen?

Posted on: 03 November 2014 by Arnsider

The UPnP server is the one built in to the DLink NAS...not great by all accounts the more I read.

And yes I almost always use the remote to access my library.

There are no servers listed other than my NAS

OK. When you select your NAS UPnP what drill-down/browsing options do you see? E.g. can you select to browse by artist or album or only by folder?

Posted on: 03 November 2014 by Arnsider

Yes I can browse by album / artist etc. on the Qute. Alphabetical order. I browse by folder..then choose the artist...then album etc

Is there an option to rescan the files on the NAS?

Posted on: 03 November 2014 by Huge

Can you see the 'missing' files using Windows Media Player as a UPnP renderer?

Can you see the 'missing' files using Media Monkey as a UPnP renderer?

Do you use Media Monkey to manage the library on the NAS or do you just use windows copy?

Posted on: 03 November 2014 by sjbabbey

Assuming that you can select and play tracks and albums via your remote control it looks like your UPnP server is working correctly. Your issue may be with the folder configuration that is which master folders/directories on your NAS that your UPnP server monitors for automatic changes and also what file formats it will stream e.g. FLAC/WAV/MP3 etc.

You mentioned MediaMonkey which I assume you are using to compile your playlists. Is this correct? If so, what playlist file format does it create, m3u? Perhaps you need to ensure that your NAS UPnP server is configured to monitor and stream the playlist file formats MM creates and that these playlists are saved in the folders/directory monitored by the UPnP server.

Yes I can rescan the files on the NAS....rebuild the library...I already did that.

Yes...the missing files show on MediaMonkey, which I only use when I'm working on my computer to play background music that's all. My main NAS library if for serious listening on my Qute.

Hope I'm making sense...Thanks for all the help here

If you can ONLY play the files via Media Monkey (and not through Windows Media Player), then it looks as though one of the following may be the case.

1   Media Monkey has either locked them or put in or removed some tags to prevent other UPnP renderers from discovering the files.

2   the files are in the wrong place

Posted on: 03 November 2014 by Arnsider

Yes I used MediaMonkey for a party playlist. I left the computer on and the Qute played that (M3U).

Odd why my last CD rip doesn't show on the library list though. And my MP3 folder doesn't show either.

Is my idea of resetting my NAS a good or bad idea?

Maybe I need to relook at the NAS settings again

Presuming you're using the new naim app, have you (under other settings)

  1. cleared  the upnp cache
  2. rest the app?

Also check where dBPoweramp is saving the rip and make sure the NAS streaming software is aimed at the same location.

Thanks everyone for all the help. I'm going to relook at the NAS tomorrow now.....fingers crossed.

I'll repost my results....

Thanks once again

It seems like a directory structure issue. What structure are you using e.g. Something like this:

Shared Music > Artist > Album > files?

If so and your UPnP server is set up to monitor the Shared Music directory then all should be well. Are your MP3 file folders being monitored that is do you see these folders but they're empty or do they not appear at all?
