NAS and Library Issues with Qute2.....HELPPPP

Posted by: Arnsider on 01 November 2014

Hi All,

New to the forums but a long time Naim fan. OK here goes and apologies for any repeated issues in advance!

I replaced my old Nait3 with a Qute2 just under a year ago. Ripped all my CD's in FLAC to a DLink 325 NAS using dBpoweramp with no hassle until the last few weeks when I delved into making playlists for a party......well what a palaver. I've read countless posts on different NAS drives...uPnP servers...Asset....Twonky etc etc....to the point where I'm more confused than ever.....anyway...back to my post..

Problem now is that the last couple of rips from CD show up as normal in my music folder on my NAS but not in my library on the Qute...weird. I also had a file of old MP3's that I had just copied and pasted into a file and dragged that into my music folder on the NAS. This used to show and play on the Qute without any problem at all, but again the Qute now cant see that folder even though its definitey on the NAS!! I have deleted and replaced the folder...but nothing. Hard reboot of everything makes no difference.

Where is the issue here??? Any ideas gratefully received. All was working hunk dory till recently. I managed to sort the playlist issue by making one in MediaMonkey in the end.

I'm so at a loss as to why things are not working as before and if somehow I've "broken" something or inadvertently changed some setting or parameter...please helpppppppp.

Cheers....

Will need to look at the structure tomorrow now

The folder with the MP3's in doesn't show at all (but it used to)

And last CD rip doesn't show either

Use a computer to access the network and see whether you can 'see' the NAS folders and files in File Explorer (if a PC). Bear in mind MediaMonkey can often find folders and show them even if they're stored in an odd place, depending how you set it up.

If they're all present and in the right place, that tells you that the storage aspect is working ok. If not, you have to go and find them and move them to the Music folder on the NAS. MediaMonkey can tell you where the files are located.

Failing that . . .

Go into the control software on the NAS and find out if there's a way to rescan the files from scratch.

Failing that . . .

If the album works in MediaMonkey then the tags are almost certainly ok, but just in case try checking with something like MP3tag.

Failing that . . .

Try loading up Windows Media Player with some music on a PC, enable that as a media server, and see if the Qute can see it ok. If it can, the problem is with the NAS software. Based on what you've said, and the fact that your NAS is not the most common for playing music, that would be my guess.

If there isn't, you might have to read the various threads on what NAS to get next (sorry): Unitiserve for a quiet life (for a price) or Synology, QNAP, etc, etc.

OK. I've had a look at the PC Mag online review of your DLink NAS drive which wasn't particularly complimentary or helpful and have a few questions about your setup.

1. I suspect you are using wi-fi rather than ethernet cable to connect your UQ to your network. Is this correct?

2. How many sources do you see listed on the first UQ display screen i.e. do you see just one and is this the network name for your NAS drive or is it called AudioStreamer or something else?

3. According to the PCMag review, the DLink NAS drive includes a package of software which includes AudioStreamer which I'm guessing is their default UPnP server. Have you set up/enabled and configured this UPnP server?

Hi sj,

1. My Qute is connected via Ethernet and powerlines, no wireless connection at all.

2. The only uPnP source I ever see is my NAS drive (unless my computer in turned on).

3. Yes I have enabled uPnP  on the NAS as I did on initial setup.

I am going to now get the the NAS to rescan/rebuild and see if that helps......see you in a few hours !!

Did you try checking with Windows Media Player as suggested at least twice?

Ty Huge

Will do that after the rebuild....

OK rebuild made no difference.....

tried the Windows Media PLayer....finds the Qute no problem but gives an error saying......'unable to retrieve media'

If your pc is connected to your network,  I'd suggest putting twonky on it and a couple of folders of songs and seeing if your qute can connect to that and see the correct files, if it can then the problem is with the upnp server on the nas, if it can't see twonky on your pc then its either a problem with the qute or your network.  The upnp sever on my first nas 'died' after twelve months of so and showed the same symptoms you are describing and because the software was embedded my only option was to find an alternative

Am I correct in thinking that Windows Media Player does not support FLAC? Perhaps that's why you're getting that error.
