Chord Hugo - no sound

Posted by: nickpeacock on 03 November 2014

There was a post on this in September, since deleted.

My new Hugo is all plugged in as follows but no sound - please help!

ND5XS digital out via a new DC1 into the Hugo; Hugo set to fixed volume out; HiLine from Hugo into 282.

I'm sure there's something obvious I'm missing (and yes, everything is switched on!)

Did you enable digital out on the streamer?

Posted on: 03 November 2014 by nickpeacock

Yup (and disabled analogue out for good measure!)

Really obvious but just in case, in addition to enabling digi out have you selected the correct input on the Hugo?  The little light should be set to red.

Still no joy.

Will start again from scratch tomo. Maybe it's the DC1...

Try a different input perhaps and maybe try it with headphones but basically you plug it in and select the input with the button on the left and it should just play. Hope you sort it out

Try some headphones in case it's your preamp.

Try another source - say USB from your pc/Mac - in case it's your lead or ND5.

Nick - just a thought. The BNC dig in and out connectors are next to each other on the ND5 - have you got the right one (closest to Burndy connector) ?

Nick, on the face of the Hugo 4 inches  up from the coaxial input is the sample frequency light indicator ,its round and just a bit bigger than a 5p. If the Hugo is receiving a digital signal this will light up vividly starting at red for CD quality, no light = no signal .

Hugo, noise floor lowerered even further, what an amazing product!

Ok I'm stupid. Input selection - d'oh!

(But at least it gave SloopJohnB the chance to make a rather fine joke...)

Enjoy it now . It usually is something simple, my dad bought a Qute and was going crazy about how it was broken. His dealer came rushing over to inform him it was on mute  Luckily the dealer is only 400m away!!!

Is that 400 metres or miles?

Hi ..... I think my Hugo has packed up ( just in time for the holidays !!!)

Last night it packed up after a couple of tracks but I put it down to having a low battery.  Tonight  it was fully charged,  played one track and the instant I changed tracks it just stopped?

its fully charged, it's reciving a signal off my nd5 via coax, but no output from the phono nor 1/4 inch headphone out.  I've turned it on and off, it runs through it's usual cycle, everything seems ok but no sound.   Am I doing anything daft ?

Any suggestions?

Have you downloaded the lates firmware with Spotify? If so there is I understand a known issue, that sounds similar to yours.

Changing ND inputs or selecting media with a different sample rate appears to clear the issue and sound plays out again.. If it's the same issue I am experiencing :-)

****update****

i just played some 24 bit the indicator turned blue and then there it was playing again? Just gone back to 16 bit and yep it's working again.

If I don't post again then presume it was operator error and everything's fine.   If it stops again I have a problem and I'll let you know, anyone else experienced anything similar.

Thanks Simon

yes I've updated the firmware  and as you'll have seen from my post a couple of minutes ago I have it working again.

im struggling to understand why the firmware trips  the Hugo......should we be concerned ? Are we causing any damage to the Hugo?

I don't beleive its specific to the Hugo.. No I wouldn't be concerned..just need to be patient for the new firmware / app upgrade to fix it.
