Endless River

i am going to buy the high res version of this album later today and thought the event itself of a new Pink Floyd album would be reason enough to collect listening experiences from all of you. I wil of course also reflect my listening experience.
A first crazy thought would be to connect 100 Muso's and let them together play the album......
Will you guys stop putting a jinx on the damn album. I ordered the vinyl and im not so sure it will be any good either. I hate leftovers from other albums but sometimes they end up being good albums like Physical Graffiti, Tattoo You, etc... Mind you, I saw Gilmour on Jools the other day and the man himself did not sound that enthusiastic either. Not very good at selling his fish!
Tony, don't get me wrong, some of the tracks I heard were good classic PF & it was nice to hear more of the genius of Rick out front rather than in the mix. I said they did not seem well integrated, maybe better said it sounded like a series of individual tracks rather than a themed whole album work as with DSOTM & Wall etc. But whatever we will all be getting it as its Pink Floyd & then we will be better able to form our own individual opinions.
I too saw David on Jools & also listen to him on R-2 with Chris Evans, yer right he can't sell fish.
That was not directed at you Mike. Sorry if I gave that impression. Last album I bought by them was The Final C..T and I lived to regret to this day. I gave it away to some poor sod. Looking forward to this one.

Yeah the Dead are stil releasing a lot of old stuff but they're also still giving a lot of stuff away. A track (or mini compilation) every day this month on their official site. There's endless free stuff available on Archive, Wolfgang's Vault etc. and they've never tried to take any of it down. All the band members' sites have lots of free downloads of the new music they are making. Sure they market overpriced box sets as well but they always sell out so someone must want them.

There are obviously many GD completists still around. I used to be one of them until they started releasing limited edition box sets that required the purchaser to acquire a new mortgage! Do people remember the days when 4CD issues of 'Dick's Picks' could be bought for less than £20. I had a friend who worked for a small record company in the UK who were responsible for releasing the early volumes of 'Dick's Picks' in the UK. She told me that after Jerry Garcia passed, Phil Lesh and Bob Weir tried to renegotiate the 'Dick's Picks' deal as aggressively as possible. My friend said that their representatives were unpleasant and in the end the small record company withdrew from the deal altogether. The free material that can be found online seems to be MP3 format. The FLACs of live concert material were pulled some time ago I believe. I am of the opinion that the spirit of The Dead passed with Jerry and that after his death they became the Ungrateful Dead. I am glad that, apart from a questionable and possibly unethical release programme, they are gone. Let's hope, to paraphrase the lyrics of 'She's Gone', "nothing's gonna bring them back".
I don't see any harm in the release of 'The Endless River'. I found it interesting although not particularly impressive. There is probably much better material lurking in the PF vaults but it may be difficult to get approval from the three living members of the former lineups to agree to its release.
Other bands still release large sets of archive material. There was recently that band from Liverpool. They re-released all their albums on vinyl and even in mono ... What a bunch of con artists! (LOL)

Up to the mid point of the Road Series I collected everything I could find of the Grateful Dead. I realised that the barrel was being scraped about the mid point of this series and all I have got since then is the complete Europe 72 box set and the release in 2013 of Sunshine Daydream, also from 1972. To me the Dead lost it before Garcia died. I saw them twice in 1990 at Wembley and what a disappointment compared to 1980 and 1974, I could not afford 1972 and earlier.
Yes I agree that the freely available stuff is interesting but I only really bother now with the free downloads from their own site.
Sad really but I prefer to listen to them when they were at the top of their game which for me is pre 1980.
Just out of interest was the small record company Ace?
My vinyl copy arrives Monday. I'm wondering if it would make more sense to have bought the hi res download from Qobuz. Oh! Did I really say that? 
I'm not expecting it to be a classic but I've liked the few tracks I've heard on the radio.
