Endless River

i am going to buy the high res version of this album later today and thought the event itself of a new Pink Floyd album would be reason enough to collect listening experiences from all of you. I wil of course also reflect my listening experience.

A first crazy thought would be to connect 100 Muso's and let them together play the album......

I saw that and no Gilmour did not interview well live. Last week Jools tried to interview Robert Plant and he completed annihilated his Rock God status by being completely tongue tied!

I've listened to the first two sides and, to my surprise, it's not that bad. There's some fairly terrible drumming on side two, but overall, I rather like it and I would say the review in the independent is unfair. Don't expect it to live with their best stuff though.

Sadly mine is horribly scratched on the first two sides so goes back to the record shop on Monday.

Had now a longer listen. Find it not entertaining enough to listen to it to the end. To much a combination of sounds then music....

I'm not expecting it to be a classic but I've liked the few tracks I've heard on the radio.

Wow!

So you could have heard it on your Muso, then download and play it through a Hugo or even use a good old  fashion record player!

How do you choose

All the best,

Richard

P.s. My vinyl copy also arrives on Monday not that I can play for a while as still decorating

Posted on: 09 November 2014 by Steve J

I'm still decorating too. On the last stretch now with papering the walls. The MuSo has been a godsend pumping out music while I work.

And I must admit I have been playing our B&W Zeppelin from an iPAD listening to my Amazon purchases, Radio Paradise, Dylan Radio and Rust Radio (Neil Young) and Radio 2 from time to time... Couldn't find a reggae station, but it just goes to show I can't live without my music.

Got the Cd today, played a few times - still can't make up my mind if this is going to be kept at the front of my collection or consigned to the back for occasional play only.

Just never seemed to get going and could not help being reminded of Vangelis (Blade Runner) and the Drum beat score to the cave dance (The Matrix) - time will tell!

Si.

Why buy cast-offs when there is so much more interesting new stuff around? The whole affair seems so cynical and merely a way of moving money from one bunch of middle aged men to another.

Posted on: 10 November 2014 by Bart

I borrowed a copy to listen to.  To me it's the sort of thing that's slightly interesting to listen to once, but I am glad that I did not buy it.  I do not see it competing for play time with the other music in my 'collection.'  If I bought the cd and ripped it, I doubt that I'd listen to it more than 3 times in my lifetime, and that'd generous.

(I feel the same way about the 'bonus cd's' that come with many remasters, reissues, etc. these days.  The 'bonus tracks' on the new Led Zep releases are slightly interesting to listen to one time, but I could then bin the files and never miss them.)

Qobuz pricing does not include video clips, according to their Help Desk.

Strangely, the Deluxe version is still only available for preorder, according to their website.

Don't know what the help desk are reading Keith

- the title heading ..........

The Endless River (Deluxe Edition)

Pink Floyd

BONUS : 1 Digital booklet - 6 Video Clips

Released on November 7, 2014 by Parlophone UK

Main artist : Pink Floyd

Genre : Pop/Rock

I listened to a CD today & borrowed it for a rip

Thats me done,  I am not impressed enough to go hi-res

Posted on: 10 November 2014 by Polarbear

Bought it today and had a good listen, may spin it again but certainly left underwhelmed at the moment. Struggling to see this being replayed on a regular basis!

Posted on: 10 November 2014 by KRM

There was a post on their Help Desk complaining that the video clips wouldn't download. The Qobuz response was that they're not supposed to. If you have get them, cool.

I went to Hi Res Audio, in the end because it was still showing as a preorder on Qobuz (Now showing as Download, but too late for my custom). Same price and no video.

To my astonishment, I rather like it. I had assumed it would be tedious and cynical rehash of rejected jam sessions, but it's actually rather good. Yes, there's some pointless noodling, but the Floyd have form in this area from before DSOTM.

Recommended for Pink Floyd fans who were expecting it to be crap.

Arrived today on vinyl, first play missed the vocals, second play not so much, third play not at all, great album

Posted on: 10 November 2014 by Hook

Streaming via TIDAL, and the lack of gapless support is annoying!

Nice album, nice sounds -- some new PF is better than no new PF.

So do I now buy the vinyl or the deluxe digital box set?  Probably not.

The Dynamic Range Database has four formats listed thus far, each with identical ranges; overall 11, minimum 9, and maximum 13. These are for the Deluxe HDtracks 96kHz/24bit, BluRay 96-24, CD in Apple Lossless (ALAC/MP4/M4A), and MPEG-1 Audio Layer 3 (MP3).

There is no vinyl listing, yet. It will be interesting to see what that range is. Also interesting that the MP3 is equal to the 96/24 format.

Thanks Keith. I was 16 when I experienced them for the first time here in Montreal.

On your recommendation, I'll pick up the new album, drop a tab and give it a proper listen. Well maybe not the tab.

Nicely summed up!  To my ears it is a very decent album indeed.

I'm not interested in paying £300 to get the box-set including a DVD, a Pink Floyd willie-warmer and a night out with Nick Clegg, so it was the basic (nice digipack) album at £9.99 for me in HMV.

A Kia car sprung to mind on first play. Various styling touches pinched from assorted sources and put together by a committee to make a good practical car which arguably lacks individuality.

But; I'm warming to it. Richard Wright is clearly honoured herein by Gilmour and Mason; RW keyboard parts being present on most of the tracks.

I'm liking it more and more with successive plays.

John.

John,
I might be more fond of pink willie-warmers than you, but agree £300 would be a hefty sum to pay for one

Did you hear the one on R4's The Today Programme yesterday morning? That was hilariously terrible! I don't know why Gilmour bothers with promo interviews, he's hopeless! Nick Mason is affable, funny and articulate at least!
