Boots Photo Service

SWMBO still insists on having prints of most of her photos (expensive, as she takes a lot!), and likes me to use Boots the Chemist for this purpose (Barclaycard points vouchers accepted etc)

Last batch of photos (approx 200)has been problematic.  2 week delay before I could even put them in because 'the computer is being upgraded, but you can still use the print now option' (as if I would - much more expensive)  Why did it take them so long for their so-called computer upgrade?

Eventually went in on Tuesday, and loaded the photos into one of their machines for 1 day processing. As often seems to happen with the Boots machines, I tried 3 of them, none of which liked my FAT formatted USB stick (which works perfectly with my Mac, SWMBO's laptop, nephew's laptop etc).  Luckily enough this time I had anticipated the problem and had put the photos on CDs.

Are Boots just plain crap these days?

Erm, wouldn't it be simpler (not to say cheaper) to upload them to Mac/PC and send her selected ones to online printing service?

Not really any cheaper, and if quantity is small, may even be more expensive when postage is included.  I don't make a special trip into town to Boots, I just do it while I'm in town doing something else.  Uploading large quantities of photos is tedious, and time-consuming in its own right.

Cut her loyalty card in half and buy her an iPad.

+1. iPad mini and show how she now has all her photos, all the time.

Yes.

Just buy her 200 ipad's so that she can put them all in an album to show her friends..

I offered tonuy her an iPad when she first  demanded her own computer. She refused and chose a Toshiba laptop instead. She never has learned how to work it, is still a one finger typist and one a week I have to take it off her and remove toolbars, update Norton etc etc (sigh)

Yes Boots is crap nowadays.  Visited one for the first time in four years when I was visiting my Mom in Surrey.  It was dingy and very tired looking.  The staff were more interested in wrapping up the day's paper work than helping me find something.  It's not your parents' Boots that's for sure ...

BTW here in Canada for family stuff we use Costco, for pro work (my wife's family photography business) we use a lab in Toronto (over the web) and a couple in the US.
