A Unitiserve problem yet to be found after searching the forum?

Curious if anyone have had a similar problem and how it was solved. The screen on my Superuniti showed "no server" so I checked the switch, then the repeater, turned off the Superuniti and nothing happened as it couldn't find the server. Then I tried to turn off the Unitiserve by pressing my thumb against the logo - and it just wouldn't turn off. Had to resort to turning off with button on the back. Apparently this worked as it managed to connect to the Superuniti- for a while..... Unfortunately, I couldn't even play a single tune before it stopped playing and I could read "can't play" in the "app"

I'm wondering if the Unitiserve is giving in? Btw. it did feel rather hot so I turned it off and I'm going to try again when it has cooled down.
I'd appreciate if anyone has a good idea about what's going on?

Oh, and right now I'm really happy I have a record player....

Sorry to hear this, it happened to mine earlier this year.

it had to return to the mothership! The hard drive failed ....

Sounds exactly the same.

sorry if this is not what you needed to hear and I hope all your music is backed up!

also just heard of someone else's near by doing a similar thing.

Oh, that's not good news.....Well, as it's still covered by the guarantee I do feel a bit relieved at least.

Unfortunately I haven't installed an extra hardisk for backup purposes. I guess that'll teach me...

Thanks for your reply hilz! Guess I'll see my dealer soon

The uServe does normally feel warm to the touch.  It is normal for its case to feel a bit warm.  The desktop client software and nServe for OS X will report internal temp. if you're worried.

I had the Unitiserve SSD version. Amonst other problems, It also had the one you are experiencing. It was at Salisbury more times than in my house. I gave up in the end, and sold it. Thankfully, I had managed to rip all my CDs before it broke. On the rare occasion that I do buy a CD, I use XLD to rip bit perfect, as most of my music is now downloaded in Hi-Res 24/96. All my music is now streamed via my ND5 XS, a brilliant, reasonably price machine, which also has a better quality DAC inside, than my Supernait 1. Happy days!

Hope you manage to sort your Unitiserve.

I had a something similar with my Unitiserve.  Disappeared off the network; got very hot; and would not shut down off the front panel button.

Bad news was it was fatal.  Sent back to Salisbury for repair.  My dealer lent me their demo machine which I connected up to my US power supply, and which then died in exactly the same way.

Hence root cause was the PSU.  So if yours is dead (I hope not) then I recommend you return the PSU as well.

Good news was that when it came back repaired Salisbury had recovered all my music and loaded on the new HD they installed, so I did not even have to restore off my backup.

I am going through a similar experience..

UServe went back, had a new rear power switch fitted and a new PSU..

Came back, works OK for a few hours...then music stops,  server goes offline, and the green button freezes..

It went back again today, prob for a new hard disk....should know soon

The UServe is central to the system, however, it can be a little high maintenance....

Thanks for the response! I haven been able to see my dealer yet but will do so the next week. I tried again and now it's at least possible to turn the US off by pressing the logo. The music still stops after a while though...

Order is restored! I really have no idea what made the difference because the remedies I have followed are exactly the same; turning on and off both the SuperUniti and the UnitiServe. Maybe the constant booting has had an effect? I don't know but streaming music has been working all evening and it is lovely to listen to music again!

I had a similar problem over a week ago. While I was listening the music started skipping for about 10 seconds then got stuck looping on about 3 seconds of music. Couldn't do a shutdown via the logo. It also felt a little warmer than normal too. Powered it down with the switch. When I powered it back up I could hear the cd transport reset once like normal. But the next thing I could hear was the hard drive constantly resetting. In the computer world we call this the click of death. It wouldn't boot up. I left it unplugged overnight and it booted right up the next morning and has been working just fine since. My dealer is trying to contact the repair center for a RMA. I've seen a lot of hard drives in computers do this and it will probably fail again.

My UniteServe is the ssd verson. While it has no issue as a server streaming music to SU or UQ it has failed to rip Cds lately. Unit also feels rather hot and it is also constantly rescanning the "music store".

I have send the unit in for testing and repair.

The other thing i notice is the PSU buzzing. Is that normal?

At the same time, get it a decent power supply. It will sound a lot better with one. Look in my profile to see the one I'd recommend.
