Lan cable & XLR cable effect for NDX & XLR cable

Posted by: To be Naim on 14 November 2014

Hi, I connected Audioquest Perl Lan cable from router  to NDX and want your tips for;

- Does it make sound better to connect from laptop to router too?

- Could Inakustik CAT 7 cable make sound better than Audioquest Perl cable?

- Does XLR cable(Supercap to 250) upgrade work? and if yes any recommendation for XLR cable?

My system is NDX-282-SupercapDR-250

Always thank you, Naimer!

you will get a rainbow spectrum of answers to those questions.

I use a shielded Cat 5e cable to my NDX from my data switch with a ferrite clamp on the ethernet lead and I have ceased worrying about it..

Are you using the laptop to store your music  ???  then it makes a lot of sense,  wireless is second best.  However it would make a lot more sense to have the music stored on a proper NAS & have that ethernet connected.

While you are doing that I advise to add a switch & the router as a branch off it,  ISP routers are not that good at handling music stream packets & switches are made for the purpose.

I have Supra Cat7 between NDX - Switch - NAS

& AQ Pearl from  Switch - Wireless Router

I've listened to a few other cables from cheap to fancy & like Simon I no longer worry about it.

I believe that the changes in SQ from different Ethernet cables depend on the electrical noise present in the environment in which it resides (hence Simon's comment on using ferrite clamps - which Mike and I both also use!).

So the rainbow spectrum of answers may also depend on the spectrum of the RFI (with apologies to Simon) and the particular audio equipment in use.

Here's something that gives a diagram that illustrates the layout that Mike and I use and recommend (Fig 3 in section 1.3)
