Seeing server folders on the Naim App

If you can see it in the Synology, its there

have you tried clearing the app cache ??

From the little I know, you don't need a jazz folder. Just have a folder for each artist, and then use the metadata to deal with genre.

You can clear the image cache under 'other settings' in the app.

Question is, does your Synology's media server app know to scan that folder?

I assume you are using either the Apple iPad/Pod or Android app ???

Open the top right corner gear wheel "tools" symbol

Input settings > UPnP > Clear UPnP cache

Then reopen the folder & sub folder

But why have a Jazz folder anyway,  the albums can be browsed by genre

I have albums stored by the same artists in sub folders under the artists name in the Synology File Station,  but the app sorts them by metadata - gendre (Jazz) (Blues) etc

I think everyone should have a jazz folder, and then they should delete it 

But they shouldn't rush to do it.

The folders shouldn't matter,  the software picks up the meta data, not the folder. If you want to search for jazz, heaven forbid, you just need to make sure the genre is set as jazz

Cleared the app cache.

I can see the wav files and cover art pdf on the Synology but still can't see them on the Naim app.

By the way I'm using the black Naim app not the N-server app

You downloaded wav files. Regardless of what anyone says here, wav files are a right royal pain in the arse. 

They don't tag well and in essence you are not going to have any luck, go back to hd tracks and get them as FLAC. Bin wav as its just such a crap format for anyone who wants to have a music filing system that can be seen by more than the ONE device that made the files.

You can name them anything you like, the naim won't pick it up because they are not tagged or side car-ed well for for naim, or they are not tagged in a way the naim can understand, and equally if the naim device had created them wavs, you can be sure nothing else on earth would be able to see them, its the way of wav.

The belief that wav sounds better, which in itself is reasonably preposterous, should surely be offset by the shear pain in the arse that they are.

FLAC won, it can be tagged and read by anything that plays FLAC, convert, learn, move on.

Lol, all true, and no harm downloading again as flac because you can for free on HD Tracks.  If your software lets you you can always convert to wav on the fly (it does sound better honestly!).  Just let us know if your Naim can see the Synology server before you do though because if it can't its not a file problem

What you have said is way off beam,  .wav files are fine,  all my 500+ albums are wav & I do not have troubles with filing or browsing, Naim sees them just fine,  just the same as .flac or any other format - & my NAS is also a Synology.

I'll give you the tag problem,  but if you are happy with basic tagging its not really that much different from other formats.     

It would be helpful if the OP would say what UPnP server software he is using, exactly which directories are being monitored and how he has set up his browser tree.

I'm sure this is an operator issue.

The Naim does see the Synology and all the files that are on the server are wav files which were loaded by a friend.

I'll have to get more information on the software and the browser tree on the Synology.

I'll let you know the outcome.

Synology File Station has the files loaded as is seen in Windows Explorer (or whatever that is in MAC) 

All will get scanned, main folder, sub folders & even sub-sub folders & it will show them that way in the Naim app, in folder view - and that was gonna be my next question to John J,  how do they look in the app Folder View ???

I forgot to add that the wav files loaded by my friend can be played. My 1st attempt at adding a download to the server is the problem.

I'm sure you all will say "pick-up the phone and call your friend".

Good Idea John,  lets hear how you get on - in the morning 

In the app folder view I have folders which are labeled "Classical", "Rock", and "Jazz".

The sub-folders under each folder are labeled by artist and album.

For example; "Beatles - Revolver"

Oh I don't know, if he's a real friend I'm sure he won't mind you calling him at 12:30am, let us know what he says 

Are there any other options apart from genre?  If your new album isnt tagged as Jazz, it won't show under the jazz folders.  Is there an all albums option or new albums option, or can you search by artist or a to z?

Its up to you how you do this, & no probs to do it that way

The Synology + Naim app browser does sort by genre, & Synology does it better if you set the Synology Media Server DMA style to Advanced
