Unitiserv SSD will not rip to QNAP NAS

Posted by: The Igster on 13 December 2014

Firstly I am new to this forum - I reside in Bayview, NSW, Australia and purchased a Unitiserv SSD and Superuniti while living in New York USA. The system has worked flawlessly since arriving home here, however I recently "bit the bullet" and upgraded the server firmware to 1.7a-sp1. Since the update my Unitiserv will not rip to the NAS. I can play all of my music either via n-serv or via the Naim streamer/Superuniti. The files are all there on my QNAP server in the music store but when I try to rip a new CD I get this message -

No music store could be located to hold this ripped disc. More disk space may become available after encoding of recently ripped albums has completed.

My server has plenty of capacity and I am a little bemused about the situation.

I am not a technology wiz so the problem is probably quite simple and I would appreciate a nudge in the right direction

thanks

This came up recently, but I can't find the relevant thread. I'd suggest dropping a line to Naim, and if necessary they can log in and fix it. Before doing that, it would be a good idea to upgrade to the latest 1.7b software. Then, once fixed, you won't risk having to go through the same issue again.

Thanks HH. I have carried out a more extensive search of the forum and have found a reference to a similar issue where the US was only "seeing" the internal memory and not the NAS Music Store. On checking with the DTC under Network Stores/Music Stores the only entry is:

d:\vader\music  type=local  albums=0  used=4.31Gb free=3.51Gb   Read Only

which I assume is the US SSD memory used when ripping.

No other Music Store is shown

Is this the problem? If so I will need to figure how to reconnect the Music Store

Can't figure why it plays without any issues if this is the problem

Also the US will not update to 1.7b

Well done, that's the one I was looking for. I think there was a resolution by the end of the thread. There will be an easy answer - it's just finding it! These challenges can be so frustrating.

UPDATE - now the Music Store was reinstated the US is quite happily ripping again - however 1.7b is not playing ball - will come back to that later

I posted some basic guidance on the 1.7b upgrade a couple of weeks ago, which you may (or may not) find helpful. The main thing is that it's working again.

Finally done! The 1.7b upgrade took several attempts to install which is rather nerve racking. HH thanks for your encouragement - I have learnt a lot about my system over the last couple of days which is has been really beneficial - perhaps it's not all smoke and mirrors after all!!
