ive sorted it, when you download the driver file you Must extract all, which then opens up a new folder after it has unzipped the files fully. then install and it should work fine.

Hi all,

I have a problem: please help!!!!

Right now I fill like throwing the NDX5, spotify and the rest of it out of the window.

I have done all the upgrades (all fine), added premium to Spotify, done all the checks, but the Naim app on the iphone and the Spotify app do not connect: Naim keep asking to launch the Spotify app and when the music starts on Spotify I do not get the green speaker button on the naim app, and the music remains on the phone and that is it.

Shall I proceed with my intentions, or have I left something out?

Thanks folks.

You need to press the little speaker symbol on the SPOTIFY app not on the Naim App. Hope this helps...

So Spotify Connect coming to the HDX and UnitiServe...???

No.

I had to log out of Spotify (after upgrading to Premium) and log back in - then it recognised the NDX, and all good.

Why the excitement about 320kbps? It sounds slightly synthetic to me on longer term listening.

G,   Spotify aside (its not for me either) your NDX will work a lot better, on the app iRadio especially is more secure & is easier to browse.  A lot of that goes thru to UPnP where its discovery issues have been fixed.  The fix lists over the various beta revs are extensive,  but for sure the package just works better.

Graeme, I know, been listening for a couple hours, and after a while decided to switch off, it's funny how far far removed lossy sound is from the Naim sound we know and love that often keeps many of us up to the early hours. Fingers crossed for Qobuz. Can't complain on Naim's execution of Spotify however.. but looking forward to real hifi / music streaming from Naim.

All Installed and working great ( with help of my 17 year old daughter) only because she wanted to hear Uptown Funk in glorious Naim sound....

320 synthetic?  Give me strength.  What on earth does that mean in English

Right, I presently don't own a pc or a mac. I have an ipad and an android phone. Do I take the unit to my dealer to update, or should I borrow a laptop, or is there another way round this problem..Tx.for your patience

But at what cost this 'real hifi / music streaming' you need? Spotify has a far greater selection of music than Qobuz. Particularly contemporary music. Focusing solely on the inferiority of the bit rate might imply an overly analytical approach to music.

Qobuz has little appeal amongst young people. They are on Spotify or the likes of Soundcloud. I suspect this is why Naim chose to incorporate it along with the broader catalogue of the former.

Both Spotify and Soundcloud are popular for mobile use. Unsurprisingly people cannot be bothered to maintain playlists on both Spotify and Qobuz. Particularly where the latter is so lacking.

I was early to use Qobuz but now, as then, it remains fairly average in several areas.

Well done Naim on implementing Spotify. It had to be done.

Hi Simon, I think you are bang on the money with your post.I don't want to sound ungrateful to Naim, but I really don't get this Spotify release. As I mentioned in another thread, working on the ethos source first rule....320Kbps is hardly cutting edge. I mean, do all CDP 555 owners go out and rip MP3 to disc to play in their players!!!!!

I would rather Naim release a road map of where they think this might lead...c'mon Dusty...ain't gonna happen.

One NDS with x 2 555PS to my Naim and they give me Spotify....nice!! Wish I had brought a Statement...wonder what Spotify sounds like on that!!!

Rant over.....for now.

Assuming your streamer is hardwire ethernet - you need to borrow a laptop with an RJ45 (ethernet) & USB-2 ports  & a length of >Cat5 to connect the laptop to the router or switch on the same network as your streamer

If its wireless, then you need to be sure the borrowed laptop can "see" the streamer

Then whatever (above) you need a USB-2 Type A to Mini-B cable from laptop to streamer - that cannot be wireless.

In the firmware package there is a link to install a driver for connecting USB to the streamer correctly

Open (extract) the firmware pack into the C:/Programs  file location that the install pack is preset for.

Hit the go button (the Naim Record Icon) & follow the screen prompts

Your dealer can do it at his shop,  they might charge,  but what to charge a valued customer for a few minutes of no materials service.  balanced against borrowing laptops & cables,  I might go for the dealer.

Umm. An odd thing just happened. Streaming stuff from my NAS all night on the new firmware with no problems. Just selected another album and... silence.

The App says it's halfway through the first track, the panel on the NDX says it's halfway through the first track, but there's silence.

Used the App to switch to a radio station, and immediately there was music. Switched back to UPnP and the same album that brought me silence, and it played fine.

Most odd.

As usual, I find myself agreeing with Simon in almost every respect. It's so frustrating to have to choose between either (a) very well executed integration of an inferior service, Spotify, or (b) flaky execution (in my case via iPad and Apple TV) of a superior service, Qobuz. I really don't want to pay for both, and having just picked up a free month of Spotify Premium, I can delay the decision for a bit.

I think you may be looking at this the wrong way. For example, Sonos aggregates the search results from your home library, Qobuz, SoundCloud, Spotify all in one.

Whether something is in 320k format is not a concern if I want to listen to it right way. If it is in my home library or on Qobuz I might choose them instead but a result is still better than no result if not.

The benefit of Spotify is what it adds to the breadth of music available. Both yours and the playlists of others. If you don't get  value from that then I agree it is not worth having. You'll just have to keep waiting for those hi-res studio masters originally recorded in the digital format or revert to vinyl.

A couple of points:

-  The volume control on the Spotify app should be set to maximum, according to Tom from Naim. If it isn't, the sound quality is impaired.

-   A lot of the Spotify catalogue is not 320kbs, even for Premium subscribers. This explains why it sometimes sounds ok and others not.
