You tube video problem

Posted by: BigH47 on 18 December 2014

My iMac is now only playing 10 or 11 seconds  of video at a time. I don't think I've changed anything.

Any ideas ?

have you checked your internet connection speed and other properties?

Dear Howard,

The first thing is probably to check on your internet speeds.

I was given this basic but quick test.

http://www.speedtest.btwholesale.com

If this comes out okay then you will know that the problem  is with your router or computer ... I can offer no expertise on that for you unfortunately.

From experience it is quite possible to have unlimited broadband that is not fast enough to run youtube or even Skype. Where I live now the wire type was excellent, and it was upgraded without charge by BT Openreach to optical to the cabinet, and this is now about 70 mbps download, and 16 mbps upload speed. My old wired had a terribly slow upload speed, and download at 11 mbps or faster. That was fast enough for reliable and uninterrupted youtube and high definition Radio Three on the internet stream.

Hope that helps. ATB from George

Hi Howard, make sure that you have the latest version of Flash installed. I have found the hard way with my iMac that can screw up video replay.

Cheers

Chris

Chis is right about the latest version of Flash. I was prompted to load the latest version by youtube, and though it made no difference to quality, this notice to upgrade mentioned the possibility of the old version not working well in future.

I did what I was advised to ...

Just done a speed test 23.4 down 0.35 up, not quite right.

Reset HH5 and now 23/6.0 which is better but still no video as yet.

Search continues.

Howard,

Recently I've noticed the YouTube buffer not giving itself enough time, so the video starts and uses the available buffer straight away, that's then repeated.

So I've got in the habit of hitting pause as soon as I can, and not hitting play until I think there's enough buffer showing.
