System Pics 2015
Posted by: hungryhalibut on 21 December 2014

It's the 21st of December, so it's time for the new System Pics thread.
The SuperUniti and UnitiServe are the same as last year, but the Hutter rack and PMC twenty.23s are new.
For me it's now not like listening to a pair of speakers, they've disappeared.
Yup, that's what the S600s do when properly set up in the right room.
Here are my 2 systems:
Main System

Rega Planar 3 w/Super Bias
Rega Planet 2000CD
Squeezebox
Naim NAC92
Naim NAP90
Mission 774 Floorstanders
2nd System (Kitchen)

Naim UQ2
Q Acoustics Concept 20
After spending too much money over the past 10 years on racing cars & my main system being in the need for a bit of updating. I bought a UQ2 as a 2nd system in Nov 14.
The musicality of the UQ2 is great & has made me decide that I will rip all my CDs & get rid of my CD player. 2015 probably will bring a new set of speakers for the main system. Maybe some Guru QM10II or Kudos x2s...
Good plan! I went for Superuniti > Kudos X2, and no CD player. While you're at it, treat yourself to a decent rack if you can, your gear will sound better.
Thx for advice. Settled on some Neat Motive SX1s.
Decent rack will will take sometime. Only moved into the house in July and as it is >150 years old needs some TLC. The listening room is last on the list....
Will also be an AV style wall mounted affair rather than true audio.
Don't underestimate the benefits to sound quality a good rack can make. I did exactly that for years, and I was totally unprepared for the improvement it made when I eventually went for it.
Changes in 2014 were the isolation pods on speakers and stands servicing of power and pre-amps and flooring - carpet >wood.

Gerry,
Are those Townsend speaker bases? Could you say a few words on how they have changed the character of the speakers? Thanks! Looks great btw...

Hi Mark. yes they are Townsend speaker bases. I installed them when I still had carpet flooring, and they made a significant change to the bass performance, greatly reducing reducing boom. I now have wooden floor and cannot compare them, but I am convinced that they are of even more benefit, having experienced issues previously with hard flooring.
Another benefit is that sound intrusion into adjoining rooms is reduced.

Gerry - I am not seeing your pics. Did something change since your post? Or I wonder if there is an issue on my end of things.

Not seeing them either.

They're visible to me (nice set-up, too)
Not sure what's happening, I can see them on Chrome on my PC and laptop but not on my iPad. Does anyone have any clues?

There's mention of IOS8/Naim site problems in the Padded Cell. Seems fine from my MacBookPro.

Very odd!
I can see the pictures with IE and not FireFox using Windows......weird.
I am using Firefox, but all the other pics show just fine besides Gerry's.
Curiouser & curiouser...
That's a nice plinth on your LP12, PhillyB.
Thanks Clive. The grain is something to behold when the sun catches it. Although I keep the blinds closed 99% of the time. Light Oak from Linn.
Really nice classic Olive stack - and i bet it sounds as good as it looks. I love the black boxes, but there are some things about my old Olive that I really miss.
Not too high up the ladder, but I'm enjoying it a lot & thought I'd join in. Still warming the most recent additions through - a S/H NAP 150X and new SBL crossovers. But very pleased with them already. It does seem I need to tidy the cables up a bit though!

Interesting set up. I'm curious - since I own a 150 amp but am only using Intro 2s - how do you like running the 150X through SBLs? Do you feel like it's enough power?
SBLs are easy to drive. Should be no problems at all for a 150.
I have used Nait 2, 3, 3R, 110, olive250, Phonosophie BiStage 1-2, Devialet D200, Cyrus 2 and a Rega Brio mk1. None with problems.

I like the look your speaker stands. I also have S600s on hardwood. Did they make a differnce SQ-wise? The stability advantages are obvious.
Edit. I just read further down and see you already answered this. I'm just a doofus.

Not quite as stable as they appear - prod the speakers with a finger, and they oscillate freely for 5 or so seconds as they float on their springs, in order to isolate them from the floor.

Hi Gerry
is there any levelling adjustments with the townshend bars. They looked fixed on the web site.
