System Pics 2015

Posted by: hungryhalibut on 21 December 2014

It's the 21st of December, so it's time for the new System Pics thread.

The SuperUniti and UnitiServe are the same as last year, but the Hutter rack and PMC twenty.23s are new.

I bought some Dynaudio Excite x12 last year, the shop sold them cheap. Impressive speakers, but the SBLs are just so much better. It plays music. I've had them since 2007 and will never sell.

If you look closely I guess you'll see a glass there.

Oh yes, i think i may need to go to spec-savers!

i see the glass of red now, vintage 1976?

Not sure about the quality of the pictures but still...enjoying the madness and looking forward to next step :-)

Im VERY pleased with how it sounds...The Naim - Chord - Sonority combo delivers in spades.

Terrible picture I know but I'm half way through this years upgrade plan and yes I'm working backwards.

Just added Monitor Audio 30 on Skylan Stands, Nordost Blue Heaven speaker cable and Icon Audio MB150 mono blocks.

I haven't chosen a pre or dac yet so my little Qute 2 may well be the hardest working bit of audio gear in England as its currently pre and dac?

Hidden in the VERY temporary cabinet is a Technics Digital Reference Transport, several NAS and all the cables it takes for me to stream 'wirelessly'...

Thank you my friend. I'm currently seeking a suitable piece of furniture but the Icon amps weigh 22kg each....

22! I got this Norstone AV thing that works fine and comes for a very small price. Nice colours. Those speakers must sound great!

My bathroom system - an Onkyo integated amp/CD player/tuner of uncertain vintage, running a pair of B&W Solids. Sounds pretty fine when you're in the bath actually.

Was that taken while you were sitting in the bath tonym?!

If so, what was playing at the time?

As this is a Naim forum I assume you have blind-tested the SQ with and without the ornaments and it sounds better with.

Hence please send post the details of what they are / where we can all get them

What are the speakers Dave?

Posted on: 22 February 2015 by Dave eyre
They are AR 94s from the 80s
I rebuilt the crosovers with new caps and re foamed cones and put new tweeters in
All on the advice from wimslow audio
They sound fantastic to be honest ive had avi, monitor audio , tanoy, quad but these sound so natural with great rythm

My second system, for vinyl, in the studio:

Dual 701 with AT cartridge, a Squeezebox for occasional files from my MacBookPro and, mostly, for Internet Radio and a Nait 3, into these:

The AR4x had their enclosure completely refurbished and finished in wax (by me), new grilles and new logos (from the USA), a full recap with new capacitors and recabling (by me), and the woofers were checked, re-airproofed and refreshed (by a specialist in vintage speakers).

It is very, very pleasant sounding, the affair between the Nait and the ARs is a small joy. Speaker cable is NAC A4 (2 x 6 mt).

First song played after months of forced silence was 10CC's From Rochdale to Ocho Rios, and now Quiet Village Radio (very much recommended, for irreducible remnants from the 60s - meaning epoch and age - like me) on the SB.

Good day to all!

The old being the table, which looks a little younger than me.. Yes, very nice!

A better pic, showing the small & cheap PSU I bought for the SB, showing V.

The rack, in case anyone is interested, is a German:

unit I bought on Amazon for €80, called Haku Möbel. It had to be assembled and the parts were just a tad below Ikea precision wise, but once finished it was stable, heavy and solid.

May I ask the brand of that PSU? I look for a PSU for SB Touch. TP option is a little purpose defeating..
