System Pics 2015

Posted by: hungryhalibut on 21 December 2014

It's the 21st of December, so it's time for the new System Pics thread.

The SuperUniti and UnitiServe are the same as last year, but the Hutter rack and PMC twenty.23s are new.

Thanks.  I think the two Fraims look much more pleasing on the eye than the three as the width/height proportions are far better.  Happy bunny, me!

Aside from the mortgage amounts of money required was there other reasons you didn't go for the amps?

Primarily the cost, particularly as I want to stay active and don't happen to have £196,000 of spare cash down the back of the sofa...

..... plus the extra £50,000 for structural reinforcements to the floor...

Thread is up there.  Hope you all enjoy it as editing the pictures and text took me about 90 minutes!

Looks gorgeous, Graham.   One question: presumably your main in source is your NDS/555PS, so what do you use your nDAC/XPS2 for?

Yes, spectacular. But I'm going to be unpopular by saying that this setup would look even better on black Fraim!

Mike,

You're not the first to ask this!

The nDAC/XPS DR has my 55" LG OLED TV, Sky set top box and Panasonic Blu-ray player connected to it via fibre optic cable into the SPDIF inputs.  The cable is 8m long so this is too long for an electrical connection and the NDS doesn't have sufficient inputs to allow all those to be connected.

Why would that make you unpopular?  Ultimately this is personal opinion and taste so why would your opinions be less valid than mine?

Anyway, I chose this colour Fraim as it exactly matches my S-600 speaker finish.  Plus most of the other wood in the room is light in colour so that seemed a better choice.

No, I'm just kidding. I would prefer black, but I know it's just an opinion. My comment was tongue in cheek, reflecting the temerity I had to criticize what is clearly a spectacular set-up. I was lucky enough to hear a full Statement/NDS/2x555PS setup at HiFi Centre in Vancouver. Really cool.

As a fellow S600 owner, I applaud your choice of speakers.

Thanks for the explanation, Graham.  Makes sense.  I have a TV connected via a 12m optical cable to my nDAc, too. Although only stereo (I have my 5.1 system in another room) it sounds very nice indeed.

I feel most inadequate being the one who follows on from Graham's amazing system.....but someone has to.

New house, new listening space and have settled on this configuration.....after a while it was becoming a complete "Ball Ache" - am happy now and just sitting back and enjoying the music.

Making my gear fit and work into the space was tough......still working and tweaking the speaker position.

Gear is listed in my profile.

Nothing to feel inadequate about, it all looks fantastic

JRS - I agree with dayjay; that looks wonderful.  If you are inadequate, many of us are worse than that!  I wish I could get my gear out from between the speakers.  I tried when I moved here but it just didn't work well for me in my room.

I am curious; is that open space to the lower level behind the stack?  If so is that giving your any issues in "tuning" to the room?

And what is the pic twix the speakers?

Posted on: 14 May 2015 by JackRabbitSlims

Hi DrMark.

Thanks for your comments.

Yes, that is open space behind the stack and where I've taken 2 of the shots from is the top of the stairs.

I've done my best to make it fit and sound great with the space provided.

Originally I had the stack btwn the speakers with the side firing ports facing out, but one was close to the wall and one was firing into wide open spaces....Bass was a mess!

2nd configuration had the stack next to that door which opens out to a deck and loads of sunlight pouring in etc.....so, decided on the current set up with side firing ports facing in, stack to the side.

Cable dressing is a mess and is on my 'to do' list this weekend....I also feel that the couch is quite close to the speakers...but it sounds great where it is -

I'll play around with the speaker position some time soon as well.

The Pic is an old B & W photo of "The Cannibal" - Eddy Merckx!!

Many years ago I used to Race a bike...still ride, but only for fun these days.

Widely considered to be the GOAT!! - Google him, very impressive palmares.
