System Pics 2015
Posted by: hungryhalibut on 21 December 2014

It's the 21st of December, so it's time for the new System Pics thread.
The SuperUniti and UnitiServe are the same as last year, but the Hutter rack and PMC twenty.23s are new.
I think it all looks very cool Jack, nice rug too!

Mark

Thanks Mark.
I feel most inadequate being the one who follows on from Graham's amazing system.....but someone has to.
New house, new listening space and have settled on this configuration.....after a while it was becoming a complete "Ball Ache" - am happy now and just sitting back and enjoying the music.
Making my gear fit and work into the space was tough......still working and tweaking the speaker position.
Gear is listed in my profile.

Your system looks fabulous in your room!
As you have a wooden floor, does the carpet help dampen down the sound? Does the sloping ceiling cause any issues?
i got rid of my LP12 and got a Rega RP8 to use with my SN2.
I had a listen to the new Focal Sopra- they're very special!

Thank you Graham - I've been following your thread on the new addition of the Statement Pre, great stuff and I am extremely envious. I'd love to hear something of that caliber one day.
Yes, the carpet does make a difference to the sound, and a "dampening" effect is probably the best way to describe it.
I can't stand overly bright, screechy, piercing Treble. In a previous config, that was an issue (different house), the carpet along with some furniture in front of the speakers helped alleviate that.
The sloping ceiling: - Yes, well, i posted a Thread a couple weeks back asking for advice on how to position my Stack and Speakers with consideration to a very usually shaped and very open mezzanine floor. The consensus seemed to be to run the speakers on the same angle as the upward angling ceiling, as they are now.
I like the sound I'm getting, but there are some strange positions in my house where I stand and the music sounds great!! Walking halfway up the stairs, If I stop and listen - wow....where did that come from....also, on the ground floor below the mezzanine, If I'm standing in the kitchen with the volume up, it sounds pretty damn good from there also - A bit weird, but I wont be complaining
.
Have a great w/e and keep us all updated on the run in of that amazing Pre!
Cheers.
Very nice graham. Is Having the statement in the middle making the spaghetti any more tidier
Graham, if you want to come over and listen to my Qute2, just let me know!!
Enjoy.

Yes, I believe that wooden and tiled floors cN be challenging. It seems that concrete under floors and carpet may be the best.
If you want something else that sounds odd, try listening to your system with your back towards it!

Yes, actually. The additional separation between stacks means that the Burndys (Burndies?) dangle less so are all off the floor. Same true of other cables.

Justin,
I'm as much a fan of music as I am of hifi systems. I often find myself tapping along on the steering wheel of my car to a good tune and I bet your Qute sounds way better than that!
The old IKEA cabinet had to go as it developed a yellowish tint here and there. The new unit is made by myself and covers both my own audio needs, as well as my wife's need to have a stand of some sort for her lamps and stuff. The unit is made from construction beams in pine and is originally meant to keep roofs up. I made a false wall beneath the shelve to arrange and conceal cables and the repeater. I will also order smoke tinted glass to put under the Naim units and a Rega wall bracket for the RP40.

Simply & Elegant Mr Fjeld - great job

Yes sounds like mono with a very central stereopicture behind you're back, funny

Just goes to show that every room is different! Just tried it, and the stereo image was virtually unchanged.

Thanks Mike
It's great to try and make something by oneself. I was very pleased with the old one, but wonder if the sound will benefit now that the doors have gone? I'll report back later on!

Many thanks rackkit! It wasn't really difficult but the sheer size and heft of the materials was a bit awkward to work with. I hope the sound won't be too affected as I was really pleased with how things were......

Very much agree. That's fabulous colour-cordination, too.

Got this neat little amplifier on PFM some weeks ago. Was recapped some years ago. Plays great. CD-player is a Rega Jupiter.

Thanks for the kind words MDS, my wife is responsible for the how things look around here. And she also likes the sound from the stereo system!
Hi Lewis,
your LP12 looks great.
I am considering following a similar path to you, with a vintage LP12, what at phono amp are you using?
david
Thanks David ![]()
Sorry for the delay I haven't been on here in a while, just checked in to see what other cool bits people have been buying! I just have a cheap Project one tucked away under the cabinet (well inside the cabinet next to my UnitiQute2). Sounds nice enough to my ears
I have to say this is the most convenient set up I have had in years.....love it.
I'm too embarassed to post in this thread. You guys seem to live in houses from the pages of a catalogue!
There are sum stunning set-ups in some equally stunning properties shown on this forum and I think its a great insight into likeminded folks lives, something which I love. I wouldn't ever feel embarrassed though, everyone starts somewhere and that's usually at the bottom and then work there way up, just like building a better system but on a far grander scale. That's how I see it anyway ![]()
Don't be under any illusion, the hifi area is the only part of the house i've been able to keep in this zen like state of cleanliness / tidiness, the wife has the rest of the place trashed! ![]()
Thought it was time to share my rig, here you go.
