System Pics 2015

Posted by: hungryhalibut on 21 December 2014

It's the 21st of December, so it's time for the new System Pics thread.

The SuperUniti and UnitiServe are the same as last year, but the Hutter rack and PMC twenty.23s are new.

Eye of the beholder.. and all that.

I happen to like them myself. The top range DeVore's also have the grain of the wood exposed on their beveled edges.

Really cannot agree with simple designed though. Much thought in how these two boxes perform as a pair and why the baffle is designed as it is. Certainly not a simple box design!

Mark

Oh yeah, they sound great too.

Chris, not sure if you have heard then with Sarum spkr cable? I use my Ovators with that, clearly a step up from Naca5.

Did notice that you are still are using PowerLines. Dont try your system with Sarum PL if youre not serious about buying. In my system they made bigger positive change then the spkr cable.

Jonas,

I'd love to have Sarum TA power cables but sadly Chord does not make them for the USA.   I'd love to try the speaker cable, but I have no way to hide it under the floor.  We imbedded Naca5 under the floor when I built my house.  I do plan to add another Sarum TA Ethernet cable soon.  I use a combo of C-Stream with the Sarum TA between the Uniti Serve and the switch.  This produces the best result.

It's right in the concrete? You didn't run conduit? That's a bit unlucky. But after so many years of NACA5 being "the cable", I guess your logic seemed sound at the time.

Posted on: 23 December 2014 by Chris Bell

The Naca5 runs underneath the concrete, through the floor joists.  Conduit was not really an option due to the complexity of the framing.  There are plans to build a dedicated listening room over the garage where I can run cables on the floor.  Until then Naca5 serves me well.

Nice. I have a dream of a listening/theatre room, but it will have to wait until our boys are older and leave home or at least move into our guest house. I'm still sad to see those white S600s go .

Winky,

Yes , those are the ones! They look quite nice to me ,but I get it, you are not a fan. Good thing there are choices when it comes to speakers. I happen to really like the Ovator esthetic as well, just was not convinced with the overall SQ.Thanks for posting the pic.

I do - but I prefer the look of the Kudos Titans

I also like the look of the Ovators - and - while I would not say yet that I could definitely live with a pair - I am warming to their sound / presentation.

Dedicated listening and home theater room equipped with latest Dolby Atmos surround format is far from boring

Very nice and very unique.

A wonderful mix of old and new. When the 110 was introduced, who would have thought that a box such as the Qute would be what people would use 30 years hence?

I like the look of those De Vores too!  Yet to hear them but have heard lots of positive comments on their sound.

Very cool how you have integrated all 3 generations of Naim gear into one setup; especially with everything being from the shoebox lines!

Busy year for me - new 552, new room, new rack. All worth it though, so just settling down for a few afternoon tracks before the evening social activities commence.

Very, very nice. One of my favourite rooms on this thread in recent times.

Hi Gary -

Have heard both the O/93's and O/96's multiple times at shows, and they do look great in person.

IME, they demand a large room to sound their best. Heard the O/96's in a 1/3rd's setup - the room was about 24 feet deep, and so they had about 8 feet of clearance to the front wall. Have never heard a more convincing illusion of soundstage depth! Completely holographic - almost spooky. Have also heard the 93's in a smaller room, and with only a couple of feet of room behind them. While they retained their clarity and tonal richness, the soundstage magic was gone.

John DeVore is one of the nicest guys in audio, and I would love someday to have a listening room that was large enough for Orangutans.

ATB.

I've had the distinct pleasure of sitting in this room and listening to these speakers. Brilliant. And so was the company.

Hi DaveBk,

What kind (and brand) of acoustic treatment are you using in the corners and walls?

Btw, very nice room

Best Regards,

Rui
