System Pics 2015

Posted by: hungryhalibut on 21 December 2014

It's the 21st of December, so it's time for the new System Pics thread.

The SuperUniti and UnitiServe are the same as last year, but the Hutter rack and PMC twenty.23s are new.

Thanks, Richard! Indeed it is the Williamsburg Bridge -- we live on the Lower East Side and bought the apartment for the view, as much as anything. It's great to have a beer or two on the balcony after work and watch the boats go by.

Hi Ralf,

Yep -- it's a Devore Gibbon 8, a pair of which I bought from In Living Stereo here in NYC. (A great shop -- they also have a record annex with a nice selection of new and used vinyl!)

All the best,

Joe

Now that's cool...I had Only a chance to listen to Devore years ago and felt in love with this sound. Great set-up Joe,

Yeah I was wondering where your apartment was until I saw that photo - made me homesick.  (I'm a NYC native originally, although from Staten Island.)

Of course that homesickness might dissipate once I got fully in touch with the cost of living!  But OTOH, there is no place on earth quite like NYC, and I always love getting to go there!

An example of putting the space you have to great use.

Having been prompted by Steve J, here’s a few pics from my set up. Can’t be sure when I last posted some pics and I’m guessing that the only system changes are the installation of Powerlines and more recently the SL interconnect and SL speaker cables.

So from the top of the ‘brain’ rack you can see 282, CDX2.2 (used as a transport), Napsc, nDac. On the ‘brawn’ rack at the top is a Supercap, then XP5XS (powering the CDX2), 555PS (powering the nDAC)

and 250.2 at the bottom.

Couple of pics also included of the SL interconnect into the 282 and the SL speaker cable into the R/H Electra 1028be.  Happily the Electras do not have the facility for bi or tri-wiring or amping so the prospect of SL links is one I can leave to others.

As for the next steps, I’m going to trial the new Quadraspire bronze spikes on the brain rack. Although the spikes are said to enhance the performance of source components I’ve found I’ve been able to wring some very worthwhile performance improvements out of my 282 so it will be interesting to see how that experiment goes.  Beyond that early reports on the DR upgrades on the power amps look very intriguing.

Mike

PS - sorry about the quality of the pics. I'm a bit embarrassed at my clumsy efforts with my iPhone compared to some of the professional-looking pics that many on here seem to achieve.

That's a lovely and comfortable room! I've always liked the look of Focal speakers but sadly never had the chance to listen their speakers.

New house, new listening space and have settled on this configuration.....after a while it was becoming a complete "Ball Ache" - am happy now and just sitting back and enjoying the music.

Making my gear fit and work into the space was tough......still working and tweaking the speaker position.

Gear is listed in my profile.

Nothing to feel inadequate about, it all looks fantastic

+1 Great looking room & system!

Decent.

How about a picture of your main syste?

Here you go rackkit:

Looks suspiciously like your little system for the office... Haha!

Fantastic rig & eg & loving the reel to reel. That must be a real conversation piece when guests pop over.

Thanks guys.  It's getting there but there's some fine tuning required and I'm still not 100% certain the C10s are the best speakers for that room.

I agree. I would certainly try some naim glass shelf and balls for that deck though! Isoblue is not the best isolation device for non suspended subchasis decks, especilay so close to the speakers IMHO.

Those are great pics of a fine system!
You may want to remove the tweeter grilles- the speakers were voiced without grilles. And also spike the speakers if possible! (says the Focal rep)

Lovely room , Mike.  Those Focals look absolutely stunning kind of adorning the fireplace. Very nice!

Lovely looking fireplace and with big mirror above , such a classy combo. Maybe a new rug to hide the right Naca is a good recommendation, perhaps a shag pile fluffy burnt umber job.

Thank you for your generous thoughts, Tony.  The listening room is something of refuge from the stresses of life. So relaxing to beautifully reproduced music is just the ticket.
