System Pics 2015

Posted by: hungryhalibut on 21 December 2014

It's the 21st of December, so it's time for the new System Pics thread.

The SuperUniti and UnitiServe are the same as last year, but the Hutter rack and PMC twenty.23s are new.

Thank you TobyJug.  The rug probably could do with an upgrade, not least having been used to support a sleeping Golden Retriever on many occasions.  That said I will have you know that it has never needed to mask NACA. No siree.  It has hidden Kimber Monocle X (which was more like a fireman's hosepipe in thickness), and until recently Tellurium Q Green (flat but wide) and now SuperLumina, which is the easiest to hide.

It's amazing what a bit of trunking will do...

As yes. I think I've complimented you on your neatness and foresight in the past, HH.  I take my hat off to you once more, sir

Hopefully in August we will strip the wallpaper, have the walls skimmed and finally the whole room will be one colour. We've lived with tester pots for far too long. At each

Really like this setup. Some definite interior design skills on display in addition to the audio. Lovely.

Sorry HH but MDS has a nicer fireplace than you, you still have your star wars figures on display !

Posted on: 17 June 2015 by hungryhalibut

Star Wars figures - what can you mean? If the picture was good enough you'd see that it's a sculpture by Carol Pearce. We prefer the clean lines of marble to mahogany, which wouldn't work in our room. It would be far too dominating.

We were staying in a pub in Hayfield recently and got talking to the people at the next table. It turned out that she was one of the Aliens in the bar in the first Star Wars film, while he was in Game of Thrones. I gues we could get a sculpture of them.....

On the subject of the fireplaces pictured, does either utilize them anymore? I'd imagine the heat might not be great for the finish on the speakers. And to what effect on sound quality?

Mine is a coal-effect gas fire. Looks like a real coal fire and feels very warm and cosy, but I rarely use it thee days. But if I do it is too far from the speakers to effect them.

So's mine. It looks just like a coal fire when it's running, but is up to temperature in about five minutes. It's great for chilly nights in spring and autumn when the central heating is off. And if we do use it in the winter, the radiator cuts out as it has a thermostatic valve fitted. The speakers are fine, and our toes are nice and warm.

Great then, both functional. Warm music on a chilly night with a fire blazing. Seems like the best of all worlds. Enjoy!

Finally got around to rearranging my humble system, and with P4s now instead of DM601s.

After 2 weeks, keepers.

Interesting Gary - it's a long time since I heard a pair  - the end of a journey?

End of looking for this room Chris. Stupidly simple system, CDS3/Nait2 I might be tempted to try different amps at some stage, but no plans.

Gary,

I've seen all sorts of speakers pass in that nice space under the stairs. I obviously sympathize with changes and changes and changes totally...

But I hope you have found real keepers, all this life can be fatiguing sometimes...

I have found two keepers Max. The SL2's in my office, which work in a way they really should't, and the 63's which really shouldn't work at all. It's been fun, and frustrating at times, and on many occasions i have nearly given up with the space in front of the stairs and just listen in my office, but i always wanted both as they are suited for quite different purposes and listening styles.

Well done Gary; that's been quite some voyage of discovery to reach this point!

Best regards, FT

That's pretty much the size of it FT.

Having moved to Cornwall last December thought it was about time I posted picture of system in it's new home, has been fun sorting the LP12 due to suspended floor... all done now though.

Looks good, Alfa4life.  Can't have been easy lining up the fixing on that stone wall to ensure the shelf for the LP12 is straight and level, either.

That looks great Alfa4life! Do you have a picture with your speakers too?
