System Pics 2015

Posted by: hungryhalibut on 21 December 2014

It's the 21st of December, so it's time for the new System Pics thread.

The SuperUniti and UnitiServe are the same as last year, but the Hutter rack and PMC twenty.23s are new.

It really is quite astonishing, even straight from the box. Sabina Sciubba sounds so much more real, and the bass extension and control are quite something. The empty shelf is where the iPad lives. There is another shelf at the bottom where an XPS could go, someday maybe.

The thing that shocked me is how heavy the 250 is, having not had one for ages.

Ovators look stunning in there! Nice.

That you, I'm pleased with the look of the room as well! I just need to dampen the first reflex of the left speaker. But thats more fun tweaking!

Well if the sound is good then you need not worry too much about the room because it looks really good! The Ovators are so nice!

Thanks! The combination (system and room) make a good combination for enjoying music!

They absolutely do! They look better than the ProAcs that now reside in the bedroom until they get sold

Nice setup HH, regarding the weight of the 250 that's just your age showing you need to get down to the gym and work on those biceps

Sjostrom, how old are your S400 ? they look to have a slightly different Cherry finish than i remember. Looks like they are a fair bit darker than before, perhaps that is the new Cherry as per latest Fraim.

It might be my iPhone that has given them a slightly different finish, the speakers are about 3 years old (2 weeks in my ownership). Unfortunately these are the only pair I have seen in Cherry so I can't really tell if they are darker then usual either.

Ok, thanks.

Congratulations Hungryhalibut! I bet it sounds nice from the go? The 272/250 is what I hope to end up with myself in a few years. I was fortunate to listen to the 272 with the 200 and I was duly impressed - and with the 250 it must be quite something!

Dont dismiss the 200 without a full audition of both it and the 250... I did and preferred the 200, hence why there is one fed from a 272 now sat in my living room :-). By Eck its fabulous

Happy days HH,

Looking forward to hearing more about your findings compared to the SU.

Enjoy!

Well, my pics always look lame compared to everyone else, but here are the new (well new to me) D-28s in situ:

Mahogany wouldn't have been my first veneer choice, but on pre-owned you don't get to choose!

And there have been some changes on the other side of the room as well:

Wow!

There looks absolutely nothing lame about your room, system, pictures or whatever to me DrMark!

Thats some collection of guitars too.....

Nothing wrong with your pics, Dr Mark. Looks a lovely listening room and system. As well as many guitars it looks like you've got a very sizeable CD collection, too.

That rotating tower was the best thing - I had (still have in a closet) wall racks and it got to where they were taking up too much wall space.  Not sure if it would survive a long distance move, but it has been a real find for my CD collection storage.

My camera just doesn't seem to do a good job on the longer shots...must be the relative position of the overhead lighting.

I used to have a rotating tower for my CDs and loved it.  But it was tiny compared to yours - perhaps 1/8th the size  - and held < 200 CDs.  When my CD collection outgrew it I looked around for something bigger but couldn't find one in the UK so now I'm using a rack against the wall.

Great system, wonderful speakers, beautiful veneer DrMark!

Any prospect to upgrade to the upper Classic Series?

I think about it - but believe it or not it's the SN DAC that is one of the things I like about that piece of gear the most.  Then I would have to get involved in the whole Hugo vs NDAC imbroglio!

I would have "too many" boxes, but a 282/250 would be really nice especially with these speakers.

I've only just noticed your avatar. That's a brilliant picture!

Your room looks really well put together too - though the supply (extract?) grilles in the ceiling above the speakers seem to be in an odd place. What do they do?

Posted on: 02 August 2015 by DrMark

That is the heating/air conditioning delivery (Supply.)   I have 2 returns for the entire house.  All the equipment and the duct work resides in the attic; typical in the south of the USA where A/C is more significant than heat for most of the year, based on the warm air rises premise I guess.

Yeah, my avatar pretty much has summed up my approach to life - lol!

That's a very inviting room Mark! And every time I see guitars I want to start learning to play...

The Ocean liners look fabulous - did you build them yourself?
