System Pics 2015
Posted by: hungryhalibut on 21 December 2014

It's the 21st of December, so it's time for the new System Pics thread.
The SuperUniti and UnitiServe are the same as last year, but the Hutter rack and PMC twenty.23s are new.
For you Winky...

I feel better now! Thanks.
Now that looks nice!

Gary.
Busy year for me - new 552, new room, new rack. All worth it though, so just settling down for a few afternoon tracks before the evening social activities commence.
Hi DaveBk,
What kind (and brand) of acoustic treatment are you using in the corners and walls?
Btw, very nice room ![]()
Best Regards,
Rui
All the panels are from GIK Acoustics. The front corners have 2 soffit traps stacked end to end which are their largest and most effective bass traps. On the rear wall I have monster bass traps with range limiters in the corners, and 3 242 panels directly behind the listening position. On the side walls at the first reflection points are another pair of 242s on each side.
The room treatments really transform the sound of the room - a massive upgrade that has allowed me to get the very best from my equipment.
Dave.
Started 2014 like this:

and ended it like this:

and here's the engine room:

Merry Crimbo ![]()
I am seriously jel about the engine room, please let us know about it in the streaming room!
Thanks for your kind words guys, after going up and down the Naim ladder over the years I love my shoebox setup and in no rush to change.
Looking at the other setups on the thread, very impressed keep posting
cheers

My X14's is about 4" from the wall and I think that works, a bit more would be better. At louder levels I get a bit of a mid bass bump but at normal levels it's fine.
Those rear-ported X14s need a lot more breathing room. Dynaudio speakers in general actually. I would say 6-12" is the minimum distance from the wall.
+1 for sure. My X12's enjoy about a foot behind them to the rear wall, and deliver a lot more bass that way than when closer. +/- less than an inch makes a pretty noticeable difference in the bass. Then our cleaning people move them every 2 weeks of course . . .
Hi Gary -
Have heard both the O/93's and O/96's multiple times at shows, and they do look great in person.
IME, they demand a large room to sound their best. Heard the O/96's in a 1/3rd's setup - the room was about 24 feet deep, and so they had about 8 feet of clearance to the front wall. Have never heard a more convincing illusion of soundstage depth! Completely holographic - almost spooky. Have also heard the 93's in a smaller room, and with only a couple of feet of room behind them. While they retained their clarity and tonal richness, the soundstage magic was gone.
John DeVore is one of the nicest guys in audio, and I would love someday to have a listening room that was large enough for Orangutans.

This particular set-up of De Vores 096 mated to Resolution electronics somehow managed to completely deconstruct the timing of two of my very best recorded cello and piano discs. The music sounded so bad that I had to leave the room and wait outside for Kuma who was deeply enamored with the Orangutans.
Merry christmas to all "naimees" out there ![]()

Thanks a lot for the info Dave.
This is how my humble setup has been for the last 1,5 years and still going strong.
It all sits on/in a self designed and made free floating cinewall/cabinet of massive oak and leather. It has the space to house the Naim reference cases i.e. supernait (future proof) and enough CD's and Records.
Not exactly the Naim way, but it works for me.

Merry Christmas to you all.

Nice setup, is the turntable mat available via Naim ?

Amazing, talk about synchronicity.
That cabinet is uncannily similar to the one I designed (I'll try and find the time to take some picks)
I like the fact that I can conceal all the unsightly cables and other less appealing boxes in the lower compartment.
I also came close to picking up a pair of SF Toy Towers when I bought my XS2. At the time I wasn't sure about the leather wrap but I'll admit it's kind of growing on me.
I assume you're happy with the Naim/SF combo?

Unfortunately no.
First time System Pics poster, long-time viewer!
Bit too much 'Chritsmas-chaos' for the wide shot, but my current (and first) Naim system.
Currently in experimental mode after five years of stability, and possibly about to undergo some radical change!
Merry Christmas all - this has to be one of the nicest internet forums out there.
(PS, no idea why dropbox and sugarsync shared links don't work here? Had to open a photobucket account just to get a pic on this forum!)
The antiquity corner has not seen a change in centuries so for the 2015 picture I used my ancient Nikkor 15mm lens to introduce some drama to the scene.
The LP-12 and the Luxman T-450 tuner are from 1978. The Naims and the ProAc speakers were purchased in the end of 1999.
I think that just last week the system finally reached the full stage of being broken-in, now working in harmony on all cylinders. What a pleasure!

Magnus,
Excellent choice in amplification! Some would say that your speakers need more, but I have my "1.5" driving my Titans atm- plenty of grunt!

Mark
David,
Just one present under the tree? You must have been on the naughty list then?!
Looks great.

No, the children unwrapped theirs yesterday...
There is only one present left, but I'm afraid it's to small to be a 252 so I'm not interested...

Haim,
The next time you have kuma over for a visit ask her to bring a naim glass balls and cups for you to try under your LP12.
You really might like what they do on your QS rack.

Festive snow on the platter and a kandid sleigh ride : )

Thanks,
Next tweak is due in the second half of 2019.
Debs,
The milkshake looks delicious.

Amazing indeed. ![]()
And yes, all cables are hidden except those of the turntable, and they can only be seen from above.
The Concerto Domus and the Naim 5i-2 realy match beautifully. It makes me enjoy anything i listen to.
If you mean the "barred leather" wrap of the Toy series, i understand. But the various leather + gloss finishes look stunning, both black and white.
Hi to all, recently i added a new NAP200 to give more punch to my P3ERS.
My little system is growing up, now it counts a CD5X (modified by NAIM to be only mechanical transport), DAC-V1, Unitiqute2 (with NAP100 for other room), NAP200, NACA5, P3ERS.
It sounds very good. The next step will be a NAC 202 and NAPSC.
Best Regards.
Claudio
