System Pics 2015

Posted by: hungryhalibut on 21 December 2014

It's the 21st of December, so it's time for the new System Pics thread.

The SuperUniti and UnitiServe are the same as last year, but the Hutter rack and PMC twenty.23s are new.

Always nice to see new pics of D15 ogives. A timeless speaker.

Just curious, why removing the bases and why positioning them with the tweeters inside hence possibly for a narrower stage image?

Chag...

Gorgeous 3 box system. Is the streamer an NDX?

Chag...

ProAc plinth was originally taken off from a personal aesthetics point of view (3 years ago) and I didn't think they really added that much..... but after a change in sofa by the good wife I felt the twitter needed a slight lift to bring it more to ear level.... so moved on to some home made bamboo plinths with oak feet.

Tweeters on the inside...... tis the ProAc recommended way is it not? TBH I've never tried them on the outside !!

Checked your system profile and you're not exactly slumming it either! 282/SC2/250.2 is a great combo - i ran it for a few years with Allaes before the current 252/300 kit.

Seriously tasteful set up rackkit, well done you! ATB Peter

Liking the stealthy Sub install Mr THX! Don't think I can fit my n-Sub in the IKEA AV unit though - Haha! Pioneer Kuro display?

Cheers fella.... Took some doing shoehorning a 15" driver in there  in fact I had to build the unit around the sub !! (B&W ASW850) certainly passed the WAF approval and yes it's a 50" Kuro.

What is that going on with the wall power socket  -  looks really scary !!!!

It's the way it's done here in NZ. They are local plugs for local people.

That is the recommended arrangement from ProAc.

Mind you, I'm pretty impressed - from thinking about the amps in June to ordering, manufacturing and shipping all the way to NZ! They are crying out for better mains connections though! Enjoy them you very lucky person!

They are powerlines, just terminated with NZ plugs.

Those NZ Tapon plugs may not look like much but they certainly perform well.

Hi Minky,  I guessed as much.

Stacking plug's is just alien to me, I am an electrical engineer & whilst I accept it may be OK if its designed correctly & not abused, my problem is I've seen first hand some nasty things with multiple plug stacks & adaptors,  hence why I made the "scary" comment.

Minky, is that the same Statement Chris Murphy had on demo in Melbourne at the recent Australian HiFi show?

Haven't posted a system picture before but have enjoyed seeing everyone else's, so here's my humble system

I've just changed a NAP200 to a NAP250.2 DR yesterday and am pleased as punch!

Agreed.  They are a very neat solution that negate a lot of the issues the likes of multi-plug mains blocks introduce, plus no pesky fuses either.  Just a simple and direct solution with very little in the way to degrade performance.

No, as far as I know, it's all new. I'm actually the second Statement owner in Wellington.

Posted on: 13 September 2015 by Harry Bennett
Congratulations. Wellington must have the highest Statement ownership per head of population.

Did you both have to contribute to a new electricity sub-station?

Richard,

Nice set up very similar to mine.  What have you found with the new 250DR as opposed the 200.  This is my next planned move (once auditioned).  Be interested to hear your views

The improvement is significant, the system seems less hurried and frantic that it did before.  Odd to say but it seems faster but also has more time to do what it needs to do.  The 250.2 DR is much smoother and refined than the NAP200 and more detail seems to come through without drawing attention to itself. It's the low level detail that shines through, the extra beats you didn't really notice even though they were there but now make perfect sense. You here why things were played not just how. When you turn up the volume the system doesn't change in character, it just gets louder without becoming muddled which the NAP200 good though it is can do so on occasions. Bass goes down another octave as well.

I spent 6 hours non stop listening yesterday, it was nice of Stacey Kent to call by for dinner!

The Kudos C20's (and S20's) can be accused of being bright.  I don't believe this to be true it's just that the Seas Crescendo tweeter is exceptionally revealing and shows up the slight lack in refinement the 200 has.  The system before on occasions seemed a bit too analytical to me, the NAP 200 is sometimes accused of being a bit dry.  I noticed this when last year I changed to the Kudos speakers from Spendor A5's which were a very smooth 'harmless' speaker which worked well in our room but never set the pulse racing.  I now seem to have the best of both worlds.

I was concerned that the bare NDX may not be good enough a source, but it is and I don't find any negatives in the upgrade, i.e. it isn't highlighting any obvious limitations in that department but clearly any future upgrades should be at the source end of the system.

The 250.2 is not yet run in so I am looking forward to see how things develop.  It was a bit of an impulse buy as it was offered reduced having been used at a well know UK dealer's show last weekend so it only has a limited number of hours on the clock but was only shipped 2 1/2 weeks ago.  I expect some forum members have spent more time with it than I have!  I was pondering getting a used old model 250.2 and perhaps doing the DR upgrade at some point but was put off by the not universal preference of the old model over the NAP200 and buying used often means no audition.

If you fancy a trip down to Poole you are welcome to have a listen, check my profile.
