System Pics 2015

Posted by: hungryhalibut on 21 December 2014

It's the 21st of December, so it's time for the new System Pics thread.

The SuperUniti and UnitiServe are the same as last year, but the Hutter rack and PMC twenty.23s are new.

Hi Keith. Dealer collected it from me about 23rd Sept and I think he said he hopes for its return sometime this week so if that happens it will be about one month. In the meantime I'm using a Flatcap that my dealer kindly  loaned me so I've not been without music.

Mike, make sure you order some long bolts from Quadraspire - the ones you have aren't long enough to go through a shelf - or you won't be able to achieve what KRM and I have done. Quadraspire kindly sent be a set, so I have both short and long to give maximum flexibility going forwards.

Thanks for that tip, Nigel. I think my dealer has got that one covered.

Ah, that's good then.

Not tempted to try the funky new 802Ds EJ?

Not really, but I don't have a good reason for that. Probably smitten with the idea of trying something new.

Thought it about time to post some pics of the new room layout and the new system.

272 into 200DR into S400s. Sounds utterly spellbinding.

Lovely looking cosy room and setup looks very classy.Beautifully done. Do you use Naim A5 cables?

Posted on: 20 October 2015 by hungryhalibut

It's always good to see another 272 in the wild.

it's always good to see another 200DR+S400...

Tyranniux, have you tried the 250DR in your setup? i am curious, if yes, what were your findigs...

thank you.

Posted on: 21 October 2015 by Tyranniux

Hi Kiwi Cat, yes using NACA5.

Hi Catalinmetal, I have not tried the 250DR in this space however I tried the very same set up in my dealers listening room with both the 200DR and the 250DR. With my usual music taste i preferred the sound of the 200 hence my purchase.

Hi HH

Are you tempted at all to try glass etc. under the components, or is this less useful when streaming?

You've hit the nail on the head - I'd like to get more space between shelves and can't bring myself to put those awful chunks of wood in!! Having said that, it's not a burning issue and an XPS should probably come first.

Absolutely not. It sounds super now and I have no desire to fiddle about. Added to that it's neat and tidy and easy to dust. Adding glass and balls would look horrible, and anyway, if I'd wanted wood, metal, glass and balls I'd have bought a Fraim. One of the nicest things about the SVT is its simple elegance.

So that's a no!

+1 more no, for the same reasons.

....although, I was intrigued by Stillpoints after reading Roy Gregory's gushing review of the bamboo SVT. Luckily for me, my shelves are too close together for them to fit anywhere other than the top shelf, so I will save my money.

Glass and balls in place on Hutter - with extended supports between the shelves.

I'm very pleased

Certainly looks very nice, Chris. Hutter seems to match the Kudos.

Thanks Mike - and my wife is very happy with the look and sound - so that certainly helps

Looks a lovely balanced system Chris, very easy on the eye, and I'm sure easy on the ears too.

Looking stylish and lovely Chris. I've always liked the look of Hutter. Nice loudspeakers too.

A friend was round here last evening and we were marvelling at the ridiculously fine sound being produced by dragging a piece of sharpened carbon through a rotating plastic rut - courtesy of the lovely wibbly-wobbly device which is unfortunately no longer in production. I'm sure you treasure it, as I do.

Enjoy.

B&W 802Ds replaced by Marten Getz II. The Getz are closed cabinet with a passive woofer, one active sandwich woofer with a high cross over @ 250Hz, and a mid range and treble unit - all drivers are ceramic, the passive unit is a colour matched aluminum. The speaker is lightning fast, with good bass extension. More detailed, and a bit leaner than the B&W, but still warm - no doubt the Accuphase has a significant effect.

I covet your system HH...I think you may have really hit (one of) the VFM sweet spots in the Naim line (and perhaps the highest one without getting into the "stupid money" area), and the economy of boxes is a fine thing as well.
