System Pics 2015
Posted by: hungryhalibut on 21 December 2014

It's the 21st of December, so it's time for the new System Pics thread.
The SuperUniti and UnitiServe are the same as last year, but the Hutter rack and PMC twenty.23s are new.
I have to agree. There is something very appealing about a box count reduction.
Especially at certain times: I am about to head down the same remodeling path Nigel recently did - wall repair, complete paint, new flooring. I feel like I am moving, except instead of into boxes most everything goes into a different room. (The net effect being the entire house is trashed at present.) I have not done the system as yet, but fewer boxes would be nice right about now! (And I have fewer than I used to!)
I'd love to get down to the 272/250 as well, but with this renovation, recent medical bills, and a new roof going on the rental property there's not much in the way of "discretionary funds" - lol!
Can't wait until it is all done, but not looking forward to all the re-assembling, picture hanging, and cleaning. Will a few photos post when it is complete.
New 4-shelf record rack, work in progress:

Top yet to be installed in this shot.
And now with top in place:

That actually looks really good which wasn't what I was initially expecting!
What's it look like from the side and why the two turntables? Redundant spare? DJ mixing? ![]()
Roger,
Nice layout. I suspect you may be starting a new trend now with that layout.
Just a query, why 2 turntables?
Paul
To Graham & Paul... two turntables?...good question... on the left the 2015 Klimax LP12, on which only pristine 12 inch vinyl is played ('cos the needle is rather expensive) and on the right, the 1980's Dual 621 with Linn K5 cartridge on which the 45s are played and the boot sale LPs before they are cleaned & inspected. Dual goes to a Stageline / Flatcap.
The real reason I set up the two decks was to get a balanced look for the system as a whole for SWMBO.... but it seems I failed miserably... she just doesn't appreciate audio kit placed in anywhere but the loft.

Those speakers are very handsome, HTM. Love that cabinet your gear is resting on as well.
And your taste in posters is impeccable.

Thank you Kevin, that is very nice of you to say so. Derek and Ramsey from ART provided me with several samples of their walnut veneer. The chaps at Stump Furniture took my design and, when building the cabinet, attempted to match the finish on the ARTs using the veneer samples and the photos on the ART www page. I am very pleased with the outcome.
The New Order poster was 'obtained' at the Preston Guildhall on 22nd October 1985 after the gig. The Heads poster was a present from a member of the band. I have another copy in the box set reissue of their 2nd LP. The JD poster is beautiful, but intrinsically uninteresting.
Indeed nice art. It could be the start of a new thread...Show us your poster art. ![]()

Still a work in progress, but new record rack now with back on, support rails in place and here is M feeding the dividers through. Next operation will be painting prior to adding edge trim. Next photo will be the finished article.

I always thought that the heads were some kind of super secret Indie band

My tastes in music have evolved somewhat since New Order's heyday
. The Heads release their music via independent labels or by DIY. They deliver really heavy riff-driven psyche. The motto on the poster is 'One Chord, Three Pedals, Six Years' as they had a bit of time off before the gigs they played this year.

The new system matches the wallpaper much better IMO.

So I assume that the Naim boxes are hidden inside that new cabinet? Do you keep the doors closed during playback? No issue with remote control functions?
I kind of like seeing my black Naim boxes, reminds me of how much sweat i had to put into sourcing them ;-)

The Naim boxes have, as they say, left the building. The amp is the silver affair next to the LP12.
wow, that's a lot of black boxes that were replaced... What is the silver being there?

That is a Gato DIA250. It has also left the building......
Come on then, spill the beans!

Nothing yet
. Am demoing and using old backup thermionic kit. Might go with French pizza boxes, might go back to Naim. Need to find something to match the wallpaper though ![]()
the French "pizza boxes" do sound nice anywhere I heard them.
You could get some new speakers too - I know just the thing.....

I suspect that'll be a SLippery SLope then.
