Firmware update 4.1

Hello,

Best wishes for 2015 everybody.

Does anyone have experience or advice on update firmware 4.1 not using by wired connection but wireless?

Happy new year!

The connection from the Naim kit to the computer has to be wired, either RS232 or mini-USB depending on the kit.

I have found that the computer you use doesn't have to be wired to the internet, it can be wireless. But I believe it does have to have an internet connection while doing the update.

I guess the assumption Naim is making is that everyone has some kind of computer with a USB connection. If you don't have one then maybe borrow one or take the kit to your dealer?

Thanks for your reply,

I do have a USB connection and RS232 but not a wired internet connection for my PC on the location of my NDX.

So my laptop will stay connected wireless to the internet while the NDX is connected by wire to my laptop and my NDX is connected by wire to a TPlink to my router.

I was on the beta test team & we installed a number of revs & I did it both ways,  wired & wireless

I believe wired is recommended to ensure a secure connection vs the possibility of a break during the upload process with wireless.

OK, understood. I did the upgrade with a wireless connection to my laptop and it worked fine. It was the simplest solution for me and no problem at all - but I guess depends on the reliability of your wifi.

I've done 3 updates, including 4.1 with a WiFi only internet connection and they worked fine.

Yes, you need the driver.

With Windows 7, I believe that no driver is needed for the USB to USB Mini cable.

If using windows 7, you need the right driver or it won't work. Sorry Bart!

I cant remember ever installing a driver package on this laptop . . . but a mind is a terrible thing to lose!

I was surprised to have to install a driver for the USB cable, but it worked, There were a few hairy moments too. The instructions  say that you have to turn off and then on your streamer, but, as usual, they do not say how to handle 2*555ps Into NDS. I tripped the supply to everything as I tried to comply.

Anyway, it ultimately worked and Spotify is now successfully integrated. It is very useful, but also shows the huge gulf between 320k streaming and 24 Bit downloads.

I decided to get more familiar with the Mac process.

I installed the usb drivers, but never did see them referenced in the System Report.  Installed them twice just to be sure . . . but never showed up in the System Report.  Nevertheless, when I connected my Macbook Pro to my Qute2, the proper port did appear in the dropdown list of the Naim Updater software.

Being daring, I did the wifi connection to the network and not wired as I usually do.  It all installed just as expected; no issues whatsoever.

Bart,

The reason it doesn't appear in the System Report may be because the driver creates a 'virtual' com port which only exists once you connect the hardware i.e. the USB cable. I'm not an Apple user but I was also confused when I couldn't find the driver listed in Windows Device Manager although I could see that the driver had been installed.

Hi guys...I think you are both right. When I downloaded the driver on to my iMac, it did not originally show on the iMac's System Report, so I assumed it had not installed the driver. But, as soon as I connected the iMac to my ND5, using the USB cable, it suddenly appeared.

Fair enough - but the Naim documentation says it should show up in the System Report.  Maybe their documentation isn't quite accurate? Or I'm misinterpreting.

"Mini USB will come up as CP2101 USB to UART Bridge controller, on the Streamer Updater it will be listed as SLAB_USBtoUART."
