Playing application audio from an iPhone on a Uniti?

I just had my Uniti upgraded, so it can do digital out on an ipod/iphone via the front USB port (it has the "USB/iPod" input).

I figured out a way to get it to play audio from any app on the iphone, but it seems rather unintuitive. What is the proper way to play application-based audio directly from the iPod/iPhone?

I note that when I have no songs on my iPhone, and I press the play button on the Naim remote, it will go into a "Loading" mode and say "Please wait" while it searches for song info. Since there are no songs for it to actually play, I can then go to the iPhone directly, start an app, and hear it play through the Uniti.

If I DO have songs on the iPhone, and press play on the Naim remote, it will of course start playing the songs. But, if I then press "Pause" on the Naim remote, I can then go to the iPhone, start an app, and play it through the Uniti instead.

None of this is intuitive, and seems like I am "tricking" it into  playing app output.

Is there an "official" method of playing app output via the Uniti?

I think the IPod/iPhone link was intended to play music from e iPod and any other abilities are unintentional and unsupported.

Interesting. Well, I'll stick to my "unofficial" methods then. For what it's worth, I think application-based audio should be officially supported in the menu. Being able to play directly from the Rhapsody and MOG apps is convenient, and sounds good.
