Question re Spotify

Posted by: Mike McDonald on 04 January 2015

Hi. New to streaming, so sorry if this question is rather simplistic, or has been discussed many times over. I've successfully done the firmware update on my Unityqute 2, which I use as a source and a headphone amp. There is now the additional icon for Spotify on the "homepage". I usually control the device from my iPad. When I click on Spotify, it opens but tells me there is no track playing. There is a line above this that says "launch the app" or similar. When I do this, Spotify launches on the iPad and merrily plays to itself without any connection to the Unityqute. Please help. Thanks, Mike

Yeswhen you are on the ipad press the speaker button, this should then give you the option of playing through your streamer or ipad.

Hope this helps........

That should do the trick.  I think Naim could make it clearer that's what you need to do as I had exactly the same issue and eventually found the same answer buried in a Spotify forum.

Mike, indeed that will do the trick, the Naim app actually does very little in the Spotify implementation. It's mostly the integration between the Spotify app and the Naim network player itself. That integration is called Spotify Connect.

The only way I figured it out was to read the forum and learn I had to touch the little speaker icon. Then the sound, magically, arrived to my Qute instead of my iPhone!

Thanks guys. Yes by touching the speaker icon on the iPad, it does indeed tell me I need Spotify connect, part of the premium service at £12.99 per month, so basically I can't play Spotify through the Unityqute unless I pay that. Is that true? Thanks again, Mike

Yes, Spotify Connect is only available for Spotify Premium subscribers.

You can sign up for three months for the price of one, to see if you like the service. I thought it cost £9.99, rather than £12.99.

Without meaning to hijack this thread.  Any ideas how to use the Desktop Spotify app on my Macbook Pro with Spotify Connect on the Superuniti?  I have previously used an Airport Express but find it beyond infuriating as it seems to choose when it wants to connect and when it does not…

Spotify Connect is only in Beta-stage for the desktop app. So you need to search for and download the beta-version app.
